Inaccuracies[edit]

This page contains a number of inaccuracies, as well as spelling errors. I intend to replace much of the content by a revised version with a link to a web page with complete and authoritative information. At more or less the same time I intend to create a page for the Eugene Masonic Cemetery, with mutual links between the two pages. CRBW (talk) 20:19, 6 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Warnings[edit]

One of the latest warnings is about "cleanup"and "quality standards," to "improve this article." It also helpfully adds that the talk page may contain suggestions. This is pure boiler-plate. Before we cleaned this up last week it was full of embarrassing errors of fact, spelling and grammar. I'll say nothing about the style. There's no question that the present version is a great improvement. As for the talk page being helpful, I haven't seen anything at all on it. It's a fair criticism to ask for a citation for veracity, and I have now added one. CRBW (talk) 05:15, 8 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I saw the exchange between you and Rich Farmbrough. I'm sorry if you felt bitten or patronized. You might wish to check the article's page history, as it was in fact me who tagged the article. You can see the page history here. As far as my motivations, you might find it helpful to read my FAQ, as it answers many of the questions you may have.
You're correct that the original article was, um, in need of some assistance. And I was delighted to see your note above about your work on it, so I'm the one who added the welcome templates to your page. But I've been a bit busy lately so I wasn't able to do much more than a "drive-by" tagging. Sorry about that. The original article was created during a period of uncharacteristic inactivity on Wikipedia for me, or else I would have noticed far sooner that it was in need of improvement. Because works by Lawrence and Hope Abbey in particular are favorites of mine. When your note popped up on my watchlist, I saw the article needed more work. This should not be taken personally, as, in fact, I don't know you. But I know Wikipedia (5 years, 55,000+ edits, among the top 500 editors, yadda yadda) and I'm a copy editor. Rest assured that the article you created is in good hands--WikiProject Oregon has an excellent track record for improving articles. Anyway, as I noted in my FAQ, I seldom explain my tags on talk pages, and I have in fact cleaned up the article. I also have a book on Lane County architecture that I can use to add a bit, or at least some references. Not until the weekend though most likely. I hope that explains. Thanks for the explanation and the offer of help. I clearly have only begun to learn the resources available in the wiki community. I didn't take the warning about cleaning up personally. What bothered me was that there was nothing on the talk page to indicate what cleaning up might consist of, so no useful way to respond to the knuckle-rapping. I've done what I know how to create references to this article from others, but I'm sure there must be even more that I'm not aware of. I would be especially grateful for any book references that you can supply.
