Orson Scott Card[edit]

Hot Sleep[edit]

An author who writes Science Fiction with an uncanny insight, into the deepest and most amazing possible insights which reside probably unknown and deep within the psyche or the brilliant geniuses of this world, shook me many many years ago with his short story "Unaccompanied Sonata" and followed it up with another hard shake when I finally found his book "Hot Sleep" in a little bookshop in Connaught Place New Delhi. The years passed I lost the book and today I took a chance and found a reference to it in Wikipaedia even after I had forgotten the name of that wonderful author. That will give you an idea how unforgettable the book is. The books hero is a person called Jason Worthing on a far away planet. A string of extraordinary occurances follow and Jason is discovered to be a telepath after he gets the beyond human capabilities score in his school examns. 'It would be a crime to write any more about the book - for it would be like telling the climax at the beginning of a suspense movie! I hope I can find the other books by Orson Scott Card in my town and even without reading them I recommend them strongly. The short story "Unaccompanied Sonata" is outstanding - and has to be mentioned here though it is another story! Deepak Menon Dehradun India
