What about their regular army role?[edit]

As a cavalry unit their regular military role is a light armoured unit. This article covers only their ceremonial role. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 15:23, 2 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

See here: Household Cavalry Armoured Regiment. J-Man11 (talk) 01:55, 9 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Formation date?[edit]

According to this page, the formation date in 1992. However, this is incorrect, the formation date was well before that, as only the Household Cavalry Armoured Regiment was formed in 1992 through amalgamation of the Life Guards and Royal Horse Guards. I don't have a reference for the formation date, however thought I should bring up the issue for the formation date here.. J-Man11 (talk) 01:54, 9 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

There is a source here but yes the Mounted Regiment has been around for longer. February 1992 I believe is just the date the Blues & Royals and Life Guards were united in a 'union', preserving their separate status. That meant they dropped from three regimental groupings (LG, B&R, and HCMR) to two (Household Cavalry Regiment (armoured reconnaissance, use 'Household Cavalry Regiment,' not repeat not 'Household Cavalry Armoured Regiment' which is a wiki-invention) and the HCMR. Yes you're correct, I was only using the 'Armoured' to differentiate here, and for the reply to @Dodger67. But yes, the 1991 Master Order of Battle, Beevor (page 233 & 318), also the regiment appears in the Royal Horse Guards (Blues) magazine for 1968 stating the existence of the 'Mounted Squadron and Mounted Regiment' (online here). Oh ok, just looking further, on the 'History of the Household Cavalry' on the Household Cavalry Museum website, (and I quote) "In 1945, 1 & 2 HCR were re-formed into The Life Guards and the Royal Horse Guards (The Blues) and equipped with armoured cars, each Regiment contributing one mounted squadron to the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment for ceremonial duties in London." (see here). Then on the lineage page, the regiment is shown yet again as have been formed in London in 1945 (see here). J-Man11 (talk) 00:06, 10 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
