Removed[edit]

I removed the following unsourced info from the article, which was added by an IP in April 2015. Some of it may be useful, but it needs to be sourced. Also, Weinstein should be referred to by his last name in the article, not as "Howie".— TAnthonyTalk 19:26, 19 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Born in 1953, Howie primarily lived in Minnesota until moving to Chicago in 1979 for business reasons. With a bit of time in Florida and California, Howie has resided in Omaha since 2012.

Professionally, Howie designed computer systems for option clearing firms associated with the CBOE. In 1984, he joined many of his bridge peers in trading on the CBOE floor until his retirement in 2000.

Howie began playing bridge during his freshman year at the University of Chicago, and continued playing after transferring to the University of Minnesota, where he received a BBS in accounting.

For 15 years, Howie’s regular partner was Steve Garner, with whom he captured many of his NABC firsts and seconds. In world championships, Howie has finished 2nd in the 2007 Bermuda Bowl, 3rd in the 2000 Olympiad and 3rd in the 1998 Rosenblum.

Currently, Howie is President of the USBF (2014-2016), is one of the ACBL representatives on the WBF Executive Council, serves on the ACBL and WBF Laws Commissions, and on the ACBL Ethical Oversight Committee. Howie has also held other key administrative positions — previously chairing the ACBL Conventions and the Competition Committee, the ACBL Ethical Oversight Committee, and the USBF ITTC.

In 2015 Howie won the Sidney H. Lazard Jr. Sportsmanship Award. This honor acknowledges a top player who enhances sportsmanship among those who compete at the highest levels, and, in the words of Sidney H. Lazard Sr., "tries to win with class and dignity."

Howie savors retirement. Days are filled with lots of golf, table tennis and volunteer bridge administration, plus competition at NABC’s, Trials and the occasional international opportunity.
