This article is in praise of Huisgenoot. Objectively, the magazine, which used to be a good quality read has now become very trashy and in fact doesn't deserve an article at all. the articles is of no great value, not for the hole family.

Sources and other matters[edit]

There is a fairly good article on the Afrikaans WP - af:Huisgenoot - which has good sources in the form of academic books and articles. This article as it stands now is nowhere near as good as it could be.

To ease improvements to this article I have copied the entire af:WP article to a sandbox

To respond to the above anon poster - Your opinion of the subject in it's present form is irrelevant to the existence of this article. What is indisputable is the important role the magazine played in the establishment of the "legitimacy" of the Afrikaans language with a separate identity from it's Dutch forbear and concurrently it also served as a vehicle for the consolidation of a shared post Boer War Afrikaner cultural identity from the politically separated Kaapse Afrikaner and Boer communities. BTW the biggest selling magazine in the country (in any language) is not "undeserving" of an article on WP.
