I just took most this material out of the B@T film page; if you care to see the TALK section about it over there, that would be great (the presence of all this material in the B@T film article is inappropriate and creates a major imbalance as to the film's "legacy"). I agree. I find this to be article to be both unnecessary and offensive, as well as condescending to this film. If a black man commits a crime in a movie, is that racist? I think this sort of nonsense doesn't belong in Wikipedia, and makes film go down a very bad road if they are trying to change it. There was nothing racist in any way about this, IMHO the people who are protesting are a small minority of complainers and this article is a ridiculous. I'm nominating it for deletion. That is an absurd analogy. A black man depicted as a criminal may or may not be offensive, depending on context, etc. But a White man in blackface doing a stereotypically Black voice and playing a criminal is pretty damn offensive. Similarly, a White actor in yellowface and buck teeth, speaking and behaving in a buffoonish and stereotypically Asian manner is blatantly offensive. Furthermore, your desire to erase this article, sanitize history, and dismiss legitimate criticism as a "small minority of complainers" is wrongheaded and delusional. The controversy about the Yunioshi character is well-documented and amply sourced in the article. Even the director, producer, and actor involved expressed extreme regret about it! I fully agree. Really, a dick move to try to have this valid criticism deleted--it is a HUGE embarassing splotch on what is otherwise a classic and deservedly beloved film. The controversy on the portrayal of Mr Yunioshi was first brought to my attention by a review of "50 First Dates", which claimed Rob Schneider's contribution to that movie was the worst stereotype since Mickey Rooney's performance. why can't they edit Rooney's scenes out?[edit]
