Untitled[edit]

The IMI did not changed its name to IWI. Only the small arms division was sold to private owners, which he called the IWI. The IMI still exists as government owned company. IWI manufactures only small arms. MathKnight Gothic Israeli Jew 16:50, 24 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

True, but it's more well known in English as Israel Military Industries (that's what the abbreviation IMI still means). But I have no strong opinion on it, to be honest. El_C 00:03, 30 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • Articles should be have the common name, even if that isn't the latest or most precisely correct name, I believe that El C is correct that the current "Israel Military Industries" is the most common and recognizable name for the company. Felsic2 (talk) 14:39, 30 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

History[edit]

The Pledge, by Leonard Slater, gives bits of the origin. This page gives a bit more of the story: "In 1933, what would become Israeli Military Industries was formed. ... Slavin became General Manager of Ta’as in 1937. ... Haim Slavin reading his newspaper in a Tel Aviv café in 1945. Whole American munitions factories were on sale. As General Manager of Ta’as, he wrote his friend, David Ben-Gurion" and more here: "Haim Slavin retired from Ta’as and kept on engineering. ...
