Religious influence and affiliation[edit]

Considering that over 50% of the population is LDS, the picture of the LDS temple above the falls is often thought of as the city logo, and the deep connection to the LDS church makes it seem this article is making special effort to ensure the LDS church isn't mentioned. When people ask about the lifestyle in Idaho Falls the conversation goes first to Mormonism, and never to the Idaho Falls Chukars.63.228.179.64 (talk) 02:06, 15 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Untitled[edit]

I think it is disputed whether Idaho Falls or Pocatello is the third-largest Idaho city, although Meridian is rapidly closing in, as is the county around Coeur d'Alene Idaho.

Idaho Falls and Pocatello tend to leapfrog each other in this regard. I'm going by the 2003 Census estimates, which places Idaho Falls (51,507) just ahead of Pocatello (51,009). Meridian (41,127) and Coeur d'Alene (37,262) are both growing fast, but still have a way to go. --Faustus37 18:39, 9 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No mention of SL-1 Reactor accident?[edit]

I'm surprised to see there's no mention of the 1961 incident, the first fatal nuclear accident in the United States. That seems noteworthy, especially for a town already noted for its nuclear testing station. Mcr29 (talk) 04:08, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It didn't really affect the town so much that I know of perhaps some research is in order? I didn't even know about it till I was 20. (born in 1984). Regardless the town was pretty small at that point in time. If you can find a source or a newspaper clipping that would be awesome. We have a paper called "The Post Register" there. Perhaps someone can research it on Inter-Library Loan? Zethus (talk) 09:06, 17 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I mentioned it in brief in the history section, this was one of the world biggest melt downs and a big part of Idaho falls history. Zsirhc (talk) 04:44, 26 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

External links[edit]

I just want to discuss about few links that I want to add to this page and think that they can be helpful. Please let me know your thoughts. I really do not want to be aggressive and insert it and get it removed by somebody.Rather I would like to discuss and insert them so that they are added as enhancements to the page. Per your suggestion, I'd say the first two are fine, but the idahofalls.com and dex listings are too commercial to belong here. Twunchy (talk) 19:36, 4 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

idahofalls-com is defiantly to commercial and doesn't belong here.. and has been deleted multiple times already= SPAM. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Zsirhc (talkcontribs) 03:21, 20 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Editing the "Geography and Climate" section[edit]

I understand that the F2 tornado on April 7, 1978 caused no deaths and only one injury. But according to the source, it caused $500K-5M in damage, so I replaced the casualties with the damage.--Kevjgav (talk) 08:54, 12 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Good idea. Better to show the more damaging stat. Andrew327 08:58, 12 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I was still living in IF in 1978. Yeah, there was a minor tornado that tore up some stuff on the NE side of town. It was newsworthy for 2 days, and then everybody forgot about it. SelfCorrection (talk) 09:21, 11 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Citation needed in "Higher Education" section[edit]

To say that Idaho Falls is the largest US city without a traditional college is a mighty big claim. Does anyone know where this claim can be substantiated so we can reference a citation? I did some looking and came up empty, but I feel this sentence should be removed without a credible source. If it is true, however, that's a very fascinating fact. I'm curious to know the background behind this statement.Pistongrinder (talk) 17:43, 3 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

According to this (http://www.city-data.com/forum/general-u-s/2196944-what-largest-city-population-america-without.html) Modesto is much larger than Idaho Falls, and it doesn't have a four year college or university. I guess that's another question I have: What constitutes a "traditional college"? That seems like a pretty ambiguous term.Pistongrinder (talk) 17:50, 3 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Primary and secondary education[edit]

It appears I triggered various edits about SD93 schools and IF in an edit a couple days ago regarding Hillcrest HS being located in Ammon. But although other editors have hacked at it, it still seems the text needs to be edited in regards to what SD93 schools are actually within the IF city limits. Are there any? Bonneville High School is still outside the city but latest edits to the article still include it. I have no idea about the other 10-11 grade schools.

But Bonneville and Hillcest are so close to being within IF city limits that if someone makes an honest attempt to edit the "Primary and secondary education" they should somehow be mentioned? SelfCorrection (talk) 09:19, 11 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@SelfCorrection: The edits were sourced by the school district websites. I removed Bonneville High School, which is clearly outside the city. Magnolia677 (talk) 11:28, 11 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The problem as I see it is that although Bonneville High School is outside the city limits, students located within the City of Idaho Falls attend District 93 including Bonneville High School. I believe in some way it is worth mentioning that this is the case. It is the difference between location and who is attending the schools. Chris1834 Talk 15:42, 11 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
