Hello fellow Wikipedians,

I have just added archive links to one external link on IdeaPad. Please take a moment to review my edit. If necessary, add {{cbignore}} after the link to keep me from modifying it. Alternatively, you can add {{nobots|deny=InternetArchiveBot}} to keep me off the page altogether. I made the following changes:

Current Yoga != Ideapad Yoga[edit]

Ideapad Yoga is a obsolete model line, and so, today model lineup contains a different "Yoga" and "Ideapad" lines. E.g. Lenovo Yoga 900 is not a Lenovo Ideapad Yoga 900. 95.154.157.20 (talk) 05:34, 8 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Potential Revisions to Page[edit]

The current IdeaPad page has about 48 sections and sub-sections, most of which are devoted to individual products or families within the IdeaPad brand and are only a couple sentences long. This seems less than ideal, because:

  • WP:PROMOTION#5 discourages long lists of products, as they amount to directory information and product catalogues
  • MOS:OVERSECTION discourages short sections and sub-sections: "Very short sections and subsections clutter an article with headings and inhibit the flow of the prose. Short paragraphs and single sentences generally do not warrant their own subheading."
  • Many of these sections have "expansion needed" tags but the topic of that section is so narrow, there isn't any quality literature available to expand it with.

I am not aware of and cannot find remotely enough quality literature to fill these sections with sourced content and the excessive sections make the page difficult to follow. I'd like to suggest most of the page be consolidated into a chart like was done on the ThinkPad page. From there, I could see what sourced content can be added to expand the page with paragraph style prose. I can do the legwork to produce a chart comparable to the one on the ThinkPad page. However, I wanted to see if that's what editors would want first.

I work in marketing at Lenovo; per WP:COI I defer to impartial editors. Thank you in advance for your time. Pinging @PauAmma:, who has been responsive to my posts on the Lenovo page. StuartGill (talk) 16:43, 31 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I wouldn't be opposed to consolidating. A table might be nice. If you want to make up a draft in userspace or something (and ping me), I'll take a look. McKay (talk) 23:08, 29 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Mckaysalisbury: We spoke about six months ago about consolidating a lot of excessive detail on individual products on this page into table(s) similar to the ThinkPad page. You asked me to draft the table(s) in user-space and ping you and so here we are. The draft tables are here. Sorry it took me so long to get around to this. Please take a look and let me know what you think. StuartGill (talk) 17:05, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I think the draft is good content, but I think it's too much for the IdeaPad page. Perhaps that table could live on its own page like IdeaPad product releases or something, then give a brief description with a section header "see more" or something. Thoughts? McKay (talk) 05:13, 18 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Mckaysalisbury:. I'd prefer not to create another page. I think that would be redundant with this one and not address issues we're trying to fix with this page. It would also create yet another Lenovo page that will soon be out-of-date. However, I reworked the table into a more consolidated version that is half the size if you think that would be a better. The idea would be to replace the excessive list and description of every product ever released with a single table, then maybe later add a short summary in paragraph style. StuartGill (talk) 17:14, 20 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I think we could dramatically reduce the excessive list, and still have the detailed table you created in a different page. McKay (talk) 21:17, 20 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Mckaysalisbury: I defer to you. If you can implement what you're suggesting, then let me know if there's anything I can do to be of assistance. I think you're saying you'll move User:StuartGill/DRAFTIdeaPadProductTable to List of IdeaPad products, then replace this page with a shorter paragraph summary that is not redundant with the product list?
I think where I might be able to help with this is by producing a paragraph style summary for this page after so much content is removed. Most of the source material is on individual products, but I can put together a little something and scrounge the current page for any good citations/content to salvage that is not redundant with the product table. StuartGill (talk) 16:04, 4 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Mckaysalisbury I do believe the table as drafted by StuartGill, especially if hidden by default, could still be useful on this article. I understand that the article is an utter mess, and I'm not sure why a bunch of Infoboxes are everywhere (perhaps a lot of stubs were consolidated here?), but it is also important for us to have more current info. I don't think sacrificing the current info in table form is a great substitute for having to clean this article up. If it were another section similar to the infobox ones, I can understand the hesitancy, but a table like this might actually help us get rid of some of the other stuff. Thoughts? Brian Reading (talk) 22:20, 13 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Since further discussion has halted, I have now implemented these changes. Brian Reading (talk) 03:27, 9 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks @Brianreading:. The product table was initially proposed/discussed as replacement for the "Current Model Lines" section (rather than as an addition to). Can you verify if you wanted to keep both? If we're keeping both, then I would still like to find a way to update, correct, add citations, address the tags, etc. to all of these sub-sections for each product. StuartGill (talk) 17:05, 11 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't get anything useful from this description[edit]

"IdeaPad (stylized as ideapad) is a line of consumer-oriented laptop computers designed, developed and marketed by Lenovo" - absolutely no information what so ever. Just a wast of time. 2A02:2F04:202:BC00:4075:1CD5:B9DD:870A (talk) 06:04, 20 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

It's a brand of laptops for computers made by Lenovo. What else do you think would be more relevant? McKay (talk) 04:03, 24 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Trims to the Lenovo IdeaPad page[edit]

Hi. My name is Stuart and I work for Lenovo, the manufacturer of the Lenovo IdeaPad. The current page has 30+ sections about the specs of individual products. I would love to update, complete, and correct this content if Wikipedia decides to keep it. However, I think most of the page's content violates numerous Wikipedia policies against product catalogues, excessive sections, uncited content, press release citations, etc. and is redundant with the more concise product tables now on the page.

I am unclear from the above discussion if anyone disagrees with me (or has any specific opinion), but I pinged @Smartse: here and it sounded like the next step was for me to request a specific edit. So I put together a draft here. This is the current page, minus anything that is uncited, cited to press releases / lenovo.com, or clearly redundant with the product tables.

The draft isn't perfect, but should be a good starting point for cleaning up the page of inappropriate, excessive product specs. Let me know what you think. StuartGill (talk) 18:11, 16 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I’ll have to agree on this change but i would like to work on it and release the changes on the 22nd. As the 22nd was my first wiki edit. Which was on this page •Cyberwolf•talk? 19:40, 16 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
