It is reasonably well written.

My biggest and first prose concern is the lead. According to WP:LEADCITE the only cites that belong in the lead for BLPs are those for contentious facts, and more generally the lead should only be repeating what appears in the body (refs 2, 5, 7, and 8 are unused outside of the lead). My #1 thing would be migrating the citations from the lead into the body and ensuring that all the material discussed in the lead is covered (and cited) in the article body). To the above, this needs at least some prose work to be accessible to non-baseball people. What is batting average? What is an RBI (what does it even stand for)? Ditto for ERA. What's a "power relief pitcher"? Positions/terms need to be linked on first use and abbreviations need to be in full form the first time with the parenthetical abbrev. to make clear. "Within a month of his debut, he had become a fan favorite, and "I Like Ike" banners began appearing at Citi Field, a phrase that harks back to the decades-prior presidential campaigns of Dwight D. Background of parents, vs that of Davis[edit]

@AHW -- this is an article about Davis. As the ref indicates, he is Jewish. If you want to discuss what each parent is, go to their articles, and discuss their religion, where they were born, etc. This is about him.--Epeefleche (talk) 02:49, 14 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, and he shares the ethnicity of his parents. That's the point. Why are we only talking about his mother's side? One of the NY Times article even starts out with "Mets first baseman Ike Davis is half Jewish and not religious". Do you see this done anywhere else on Wikipedia? I added info garnished from articles specifically about Ike from the NY Times and ESPN stating that he is non-religious, does not practice Judaism, is proud of both sides of his family, is proud of his Jewish heritage and describes himself as "culturally Jewish. So Ike is 50% ethnically Jewish; religiously non-Jewish; and 100% halachically Jewish (which none of the articles touches on). So if we are going to emphasize his Jewishness (considering that there are 5 articles from sportswriters and Nate Bloom talking about Jewish ballplayers as support), we need to explain it. His statements in personal interviews should take precedence.Patapsco913 (talk)
