Imtiaz Ahmed, the great cricketer[edit]

I grew up in Pakistan in the 1950s but have lived in England since 1964. To Pakistani boys of my time Imtiaz was a hero, more so than Fazal and definitely more than Hanif. He played thrilling unselfish cricket. Time and again he scored runs when they were needed. He shielded Hanif from Gilchrist and Desai both of whom unsettled Hanif. We also believed that he played cricket in a sporting manner. Last November I published a book called 'The Tebbit Test' (ISBN 978-0-9570266-0-5) which pays homage to Imtiaz. In my Dream XI ( Majid Khan, Saeed Anwar, David Gower, Rahul Dravid, Peter May, Garry Sobers, Imtiaz Ahmed, Imran Khan, Wasim Akram, Shane Warne and James Anderson) Imtiaz is the wicket-keeper batsman.
