Original research?[edit]

Nuvolet: I have concerns about this disambiguation page and Continental Catalan being original research. What are the sources supporting the use of Insular Catalan as a synonym of Balearic Catalan, Algherese, or the grouping of both? MarioGom (talk) 20:16, 2 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Check the "Territorial singularity reflected on a linguistic particularity: about a regressive assimilation in insular Catalan" or "The phonological role of paradigms: The case of insular Catalan" — Jɑuмe (dis-me) 20:50, 2 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. No original research then. So both sources use the term Insular Catalan as the grouping of both Algherese and Balearic, not one or the other. That means this is not a disambiguation page, as it would seem in the current article version. I would suggest explaining the usage of both insular and continental Catalan in a section of the Catalan dialects articles, and then direct Insular Catalan and Continental Catalan. That way the reader can learn about the topic with the right context, rather than having these two disambiguation-like stubs. MarioGom (talk) 23:14, 2 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome. Leaving behind the phonetic aspects of these varieties, the definition Maria Rosa Lloret uses on her works is pretty much the same than the one I added here.
I suppose we could do what you say, however we'd leave two separate pages (Algherese and Balearic) that could become repetitive regarding certain commonalities. How would you solve this? — Jɑuмe (dis-me) 17:10, 3 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I think current content of Continental Catalan and Insular Catalan could be a new section of the Catalan dialects article, explaining this categorization, and that section could explain such commonalities. If, at some point in the future, there is enough content with reliable sources for a standalone article, then they could be created again. Note that even if the content is on Catalan dialects, Insular Catalan and Continental Catalan can continue to exist as redirects to the new section, and these redirects can continue to have categories. OK sounds good to me to do that for now. Concerning the main dialectal branches of Catalan, Eastern and Western Catalan, they could also redirect to a specific section on the same article. Moreover they could have a disambiguation page since Western Catalan can be synonymous with North-Western and Eastern with Central in the context of the language division of Catalonia (Western Catalan, mainly the Lleida province, and Eastern Catalan–the Central and Northern Catalan coast). — Jɑuмe (dis-me) 17:01, 5 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge complete: Continental Catalan and Insular Catalan copied to Catalan dialects. --Whiteguru (talk) 21:30, 4 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
