Illustrations[edit]

Would be helpful to have at least one photo or diagram of an example of this class. 71.221.118.27 (talk) 18:05, 27 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Correct Name?[edit]

Does America's/Americas posessive in this case, or not? If so, then the article should be moved to ?America's? and this page redirected to there.. Madmaxmarchhare 16:54, 27 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

ED: Its America's cup because the schooner won it, thus becoming its property, thus belonging to it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Conner5553 (talkcontribs)

special stauts changed to winning boat[edit]

the only boats listed were winners so the list more accurate and none of this drama below

Alinghi worthy of special IACC boat status hereby denied[edit]

Although Alinghi won the 2003 America's Cup, it was not a special or spectacular boat. Quite average on the contrary, and this is admitted by the boats skippers, builders, sailer's, managers. Essentially SUI-64 was just a 'good boat' (see Butterworth 2003 Cup statement, New Zealand Herald or TvONE Sports News. It was not a breakthrough boat as America3, NZL-32, NZL-60 and now NZL-92 is. Therefore not awarded status, status denied.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Conner5553 (talkcontribs)

Conner: while you've obviously put some effort into your decision, you can't unilaterally approve or deny which yachts are notable or not based on your prejudices. It won the AC, it's notable, if anything, for that. Madmaxmarchhare 13:17, 16 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Prepare to move article[edit]

Unless there are any objections (I'll wait), I'll proceed to move this article to "International America's Cup class" in order to place it under its correct name. Madmaxmarchhare 22:38, 16 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with the move. No need to wait IMO. —Moondyne 00:40, 17 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
There is a redir page blocking the move. Are you an admin that can take care of that? Madmaxmarchhare 21:58, 27 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Deleted text -- ideas?[edit]

I deleted this table from the main page. If everyone wants it, that's ok, but I didn't want the article to turn into a huge list of "official" IACC yachts. Possibly, someone could create a category and populate it with these lists so we could have a "See Also - IACC Yachts" list? Ideas? Madmaxmarchhare 14:12, 7 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • Please reinstate in the main page. This list is important because of the practice of teams using the same name for different boats. eg Alinghi team won the America's Cup sailing Alinghi and the Alinghi team will defend the America's Cup sailing Alinghi - same name but different boat. For anyone studying the history of America's Cup racing, this list is important and should be in the main page. There are about 100 America's Cup Class yachts so if the list subsequently becomes unwieldy then it can be moved to a separate article. Please reinstate. Thanks. • Ok, I get that, and I think you've a good point there, but why don't we have a page dedicated to this type of thing? I'm not against the list per se, I'm just not sure if this particular page is the best place for it. Let's get some more editors on this to build a concensus. Madmaxmarchhare 18:45, 8 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
      • I've created a list page--let's see how that goes. This is akin to a list of alumni page for universities. Madmaxmarchhare 20:30, 8 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

IACC[edit]

IACC does not redirect here, it doesn't even exist... 132.205.93.63 03:11, 13 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

thanks for creating it. 132.205.93.63 03:52, 13 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Umpire signalling system[edit]

I don't think this belongs here as the article is about the class of boats themselves. Perhaps it would be better off in a separate page? I don't think it's appropriate for the America's Cup page either as its only applicable to the current regatta. Lisiate 05:40, 27 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

detail[edit]

If

   DSP: displacement in cubic metres;
   L: rated length in metres;

these are the pure numbers expressing these quantities in the given unit and the result must be compared with 24, not with 24 m. To my knowledge, the displacement is measured by direct weighting, so DSP is actually weight/seawater_density
