Article improvement[edit]

There have been some edits from an individual associated with the FEI, which is a concern due to the policies at WP:COI. This editor emailed me privately to express some concerns about the article, some of which have also been discussed publicly on-wiki at another user's talk page. That editor provided this user some excellent advice on their talk page, and I am now moving the article discussion here. Montanabw(talk) 16:17, 11 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

To the extent that one concern publicly discussed was about the use of the Nazi flag icon to designate the nation of origin of the FEI president during the 1930s, I think that the solution is to simply remove all flag icons from the chart, replacing with text and a "nation" heading. It may be less colorful, but remains equally accurate with less potential for unneeded drama. this diff shows where it was added. It seems to have been a good faith attempt to make the flag icons more accurate, I noted that the USA icon had also been tweaked in a different edit to show the proper number of stars on the flag when an American was FEI president. For all other article improvements, the best thing is to discuss changes here. Keep in mind that Wikipedia is an encyclopedia and thus articles much adhere to our "five pillars" which include neutrality and reliable sources. Please review WP:CITE for information on how to properly use footnote syntax such as <ref> tags. Please also do not remove wikilinks ( the brackets [[like this]]) that provide links to other articles in wikipedia. We also cannot usually accept material that is copied and pasted off of a copyrighted web page, unless it is in direct quotes and has other proper attribution. See WP:COPYVIO. Finally, through our policies about sourcing and accuracy, we usually can create an article that is factual, neutral and accurate about an organization, the organization does not "own" "their" article. Anyone can edit wikipedia. Montanabw(talk) 16:17, 11 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

That said, this article DOES need to be improved, so appropriate suggestions and additions are certainly welcome. But if you edit, please provide a URL to the specific web page where any information occurs. Even just putting the URL between ref tags will be a good start, as I can run "Reflinks" on those for quick formattting. It is more problematic when material that is already sourced is removed, or when the above style of formatting is used within the article (particularly when footnotes or wikilinks are more appropriate. For a model of an article about an organization on wikipedia, you may want to look at AQHA, which is one of the better horse organization articles on WP at the moment. It isn't perfect, but it's nicely done by an experienced editor. Montanabw(talk) 16:17, 11 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

FEEDBACK AND EXPLANATIONS[edit]

Many thanks for having taken time to answer our concern. I agree with your proposal to remove flags in the President's section, I understand the purpose of being historically correct but this particular flag has endorsed some many horrible things ... I will therefore edit this part and remove the flags.

As for the rest of the content, our aim was to add references to the existing page and to promote the sport not the FEI. Also, we wanted to give accurate information (number of disciplines for example) and update what looks like outdated.

Keen on continuing this discussion with you and seeking for help in order to respect the five pillars of WP.

Best, Nicole Sigrist

I already did fix the flags thing. By the way, you are well advised to NOT edit as an anonymous IP either, as that can geolocate back to you. It's also unwise to edit under your real name on wikipedia when you have a clear conflict of interest as an employee of the FEI. (create a user name, and let us know it's you, we will take it from there) Just a bit of wise advice... As for the rest, just pop in here what is outdated or just plain wrong and we can figure out how to fix it. You will be most useful in pointing us to the specific pages inside the FEI's web site that have the precise information needed for a proper citation, particularly rule changes, press releases and the rule book. On that note, we could use rule updates (or even an explanation or summary of the rules) on the wikipedia articles for show jumping (where we really should have a chart for the different rules of the FEI, USEF, BHS, etc... ) and Eventing, which is kind of a mess and hasn't had a serious reworking since about 2006. We seem to have some pretty good people updating equestrian vaulting, though a heads up on the talk page if they have the rules wrong would be welcomed there as well. Dressage is kind of a mess and is eventually a project for a mass cleanup, some sections are pretty decent, others are not, but it's a long, big, time-consuming job, so again, maybe just point out if there are rule errors, perhaps? Also feel free to pop over to reining and combined driving. Montanabw(talk) 17:07, 15 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Wiki editor of this page. Just had a look at it and found that some links to the About the discipline are not working anymore. You may refer to these links:

For Jumping: [1] For Dressage: [2] and Para-Equestrian Dressage [3] For Eventing: [4] For Driving: [5] and Para-Equestrian Driving rules: [6] For Endurance: [7] For Reining: [8] For Vaulting: [9]

I have edited the part where you mention the number of National Federation members: added 2015 and 2016. For your review and approval.

Best regards, Nicole FEI2015 (talk) 14:46, 24 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for spotting the dead links. If you want to take a try at replacing the dead links with these live ones, just go ahead and swap them. (If you mess up, just go to the "history" tab and undo your last edit and try again). I'll keep an eye on things and try to help you with formatting. Good luck! (Oh, and you might want to change your username, see the note at your talk page.) Montanabw(talk) 17:50, 24 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

hello again, I have modified the deadlinks, changed the number of national federations from 132 and 134 in one section. Changed the wording related to the FEI World Cup = this is how they are named now. thanks to confirm that you approve (still learning). Nicole FEI2015 (talk) 09:27, 25 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
