This article is terribly biased. It says the team "re-emerged in 2004" while results show a complete continuity of mediocre to average, but not terribly bad, results, at least from 2000 to 2006, if not from before.

FIFA Confederations Cup Record

Although this information has been taken out, it is fact that the competition will take place. So it would only have to be put back in again.

I would amend the edits myself to re-insert the topic, but i'm afraid that they will be taken out again in a 'slanging' match.

I don't see a problem with keeping this info, Iraq will play in this tournament and sooner or later the statistics-tables will be re-added to this page. Mussav (talk) 11:13, 10 February 2009 (UTC)

Consensus on FIFA Confederations Cup

How about Wikipedia:Consensus? If we get a consensus to keep the stats, I'll revert it back to the original one.

Of the other qualified nations, 3 have no mention of the tournament that is still several months away, two have one line allocated at the bottom of a pre-existing table, 1 has a 3-row chart, and one has a 4 row table for the group. None are proposing that such an extensive section is necessary. Nothing is necessary until June, and I see no merit in empty tables sitting on the article for several months. The fact that they qualified for the confederations cup through the Asian Cup is already noted in the history, and the link is present for anyone who wants 4 months notice on who the opponents will be. Repetition of the basic facts seems like the enthusiasm of supporters of a team, rather than catering to the needs of those researching in an encyclopaedia. Kevin McE, I understand your argument on this, and maybe it is too early to add tables etc, but what annoy's me the most is the fact that our fellow user Mussav keep's everything on Iraqi football upto date. If it was not for him, then we wouldn't have half the much of information we currently have.

So what really disappoints me, is the fact that you could delete all the information without saving it to a location such as the Talk page first. For some users, the same as myself, they spend much time creating new ways of presenting information on various articles at our own time, just to give that little bit of history to such a team/nation, and it does become a bit diheartening when things are deleted without any thought. Thing's such as deletions should surely be discussed first? That's why i stated earlier that i will not put it back, as it will turn into a slanging match of deletion after deletion.

The fact is, the tournement is happening, and the information is correct. It's just a case of where and when it should be added to the article.

Personally, i think it should be added, as a non follower of Iraqi sport might come across this article, notice they are playing in Confederations Cup and then forever be a follower. Without the article, they may be lost forever. Just my thoughts. Druryfire (talk) 22:27, 10 February 2009 (UTC)

Firstly, information is not lost: it remains available in the edit history when and if it is of value to restore it. The talk page should not be user as a storage facility: make a sub-page at your user page if you do not wish to remember where it can be retrieved from.
Indeed, MUSSAV does make valuable contributions to this page, but no user has ownership of any page, so the point you wish to make is unclear.
There is no requirement that discussion precede deletion: Wikipedia encourages boldness.
Of course this tournament will, barring extraordinary events, take place, and in time more information, hopefully in a manner that is co-ordinated and consistent among the competing teams, will merit posting.
It is not the purpose of an encyclopaedia to engender interest in any particular team. We should seek to provide accurate, appropriate information in a neutral manner. Kevin McE (talk) 22:59, 10 February 2009 (UTC)

table headers

I think we should use {{nat fs g start}} and {{nat fs r start}} for the table headers, rather than some customised solution. if there is a problem with the background colouring used by those templates, please discuss at WT:FOOTY and/or on the talk page of those templates. the default is the method being used by all other national team articles, so no reason to deviate here. thank you.
