Irving opposition[edit]

http://www.rabble.ca/news_full_story.shtml?sh_itm=487a2345be969133210c32ad0147e359&rXn=1&
What is the point of the above link? It seems full of nothing more than speculation with little to back up the assertions it makes.
While I'm all for balance in Wikipedia articles, opposition to specific entities, be they governments, individuals or corporations, needs to be focused. The K.C. Irving article talks about the vertical integration model that was implemented for the entier "Irving Group of Companies". Perhaps an Irving Group of Companies entry can be created that would better hold this information? I foresee that uninformed readers will stumble onto this Irving Oil article and think it is the vertical integrator, when it seems that all three major areas controlled by K.C.'s sons are integrated: energy, natural resources & transportation, construction. Just a thought. Plasma east 19:38, 12 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

ok. do so then. Mtminardi 22:31, 2 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

In the tanker[edit]

Anybody know what naming system Irving used for their ships? Or if there's a list of their names? (The comapny website doesn't have 1 I could find.) Trekphiler 23:09, 20 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • Having watched ships getting filled at their marine terminal (not Canaport, but the terminal that dispenses refined product for shipping), I haven't seen any real kind of trend with naming the tankers, though I suspect they're names of regional importance, for instance they may dub a ship the Irving Acadian. Assessment[edit]

I have assessed this as Start Class, as it contains more detail and organization than would be expected of a Stub, and of Low Importance, as I do not feel that many people outside of Canada would be familiar with the subject of this article. Cheers, CP 01:02, 23 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

At an estimated 5 billion, a huge company owned by Canada's third richest family, I don't see how it's unimporant, the article is not even very long. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 142.177.153.241 (talk) 05:15, 22 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Incidents[edit]

I don't see any real point of relevance in having a summary of incidents at the refinery and Canaport LNG terminal, mainly because there is no such section in the article for Ultramar and understandably, not Petro-Canada or ConocoPhillips. Would like to get feedback before editing or removal of section. Calvinhrn (talk) 20:04, 17 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Criticisms section was filled with POV; original research; and personal, unverified statements.[edit]

The Criticisms section is absurd. Most of the criticisms are simply out of ignorance for common business practices and their purposes. I'd say that about 20% of that section is actually worth keeping. I just overhauled the whole thing, but it's still filled with junk. I deleted the rampant POV sentences and original research. There were tons of personal statements, such as "citizens have had feelings of distrust towards Irving for years." It's all one man's (or woman's) rant, and Wikipedia is not the place for that. Also, I tried to mitigate the problem by adding sentences that provide proper perspective and show the flip-side of the issues being discussed. ask123 (talk) 19:26, 11 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I do not think it is absurb at all. maybe some of you do not remember this, but once upon a time irving had a transport division within midland transport called greenline transport. greenline transport was around for a long time untill one day the truckers decided to unionize, and when that happened robert irving personally asked all the operators if they were planning to form a union, and then he shut it down, not because they were not making money, but because they were union busting. if you ever meet someone who worked for greenline ask them — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.118.177.31 (talk) 16:50, 29 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Riverdale private line of products[edit]

In the section of the article on the Irving chain of convenience stores, there is no mention of the Riverdale lines of soda and potato chips that emerged in the 90's. Someone should write a piece on this. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 129.100.63.68 (talk) 21:36, 15 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Reverted edit on 2023/07/24[edit]

Hi, I just reverted an edit which claimed, without providing a source, "In 2023 Irving oil is considering selling the business." I mistakenly noted this as "possible vandalism" given that further research indicates that this is, in fact, true; however, I made the revert as it was not sourced. If you add this info back please add a citation. WittyWidi (talk) 05:03, 24 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
