Call for Accuracy Western media called the IJU as "founded in Uzbekistan" group. I have few reasons to disagree with that. 1) it gives (by loose implication) an impression that Uzbekistan is a place where you can just get together and set up a terrorist group, almost like let say in other neighboring countries. 2) the statement has to be proved by facts, if somebody wants to show there's any affiliation with Uzbekistan, just put it in a way that's accurate (call it a IMU splinter group, say it was initiated by Uzbeks, etc). I would love the media take into account these things. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sahib-qiron (talkcontribs) 09:28, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

True, the article needs expert attention. Even though "verified" with a quote, a statement like "The IJU is seen as the successor to al Qaeda" ist obviously total bullshit. AQ is an "opt-in" label for Wahhabi extremists; you simply pledge your allegiance to (essentially) Qutbism and if Zawahiri doesn't send an angry letter or video rant to Al-Quds al Arabi or Al-Jazeera, you're free to call yourself "al-Qaeda member" as much as you like. They do not issue membership cards.
But calling the IJU a "successor to al Qaeda" makes about as much sense as saying "Uzbekistan is seen as the successor to Pan-Turkism". That is to say, it neither fits the known facts logically nor semantically. (In fact, it seems to be a simple error, as the IJU was at first supposed to be a successor of the IMU which is an AQ affiliate and as such simply called "AQ" by mass media buffoons)
For a start, de:Islamische Dschihad-Union could simply be translated and merged in the article. Dysmorodrepanis (talk) 18:01, 21 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
