Untitled[edit]

This article is only one of four pertaining to the IoW railways. I have transferred the map to here since it is more useful in this article than either Island Line, Isle of Wight and Isle of Wight Steam Railway, both of which are modern reincarnations of the island's railways. I have also added station lists - although all are of course closed stations Peter Shearan 15:50, 15 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Diagram Issues[edit]

I don't believe that the colouring of the map on this page is correct. Red is for lines that are currently open and pink for lines that are closed, but this map shows Ryde to Shanklin in pink, when this line is open (see current status on Island Line Trains, which appears to be correct), and also shows other parts of the network in red which are closed. ..unless I'm mis-understanding the map? That is possible. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 212.84.178.34 (talk) 13:15, 27 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I just noticed that the Cowes line doesn't have station opening dates, which can't help. As a direct answer, the colouring is certainly non-standard, but does convey the correct information. The title bar of the diagram clearly says IWCR Stations & lines shown dark red - in other words the red v. pink denotes whether the line falls under the scope of the article, not whether it is open or closed. I thought it was more important to make clear what the article was about than what was open/closed, for these reasons:
  • The self-contained nature of the island's system,
  • All the island's lines were shown on the diagram (and the similar one for the Isle of Wight Railway)
  • All the IWCR lines have closed (except for the steam railway having reopened a bit).
Perhaps a different header version should be used, so it doesn't link to a 'legend' stating that dark red means open and pink means closed. Maybe this isn't as clear as I thought. Any further thoughts on this? --Peeky44 (talk) 21:40, 27 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ryde and Newport Railway[edit]

There are two sections titled "Ryde and Newport Railway", with much duplication between them. They should be merged. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 23:50, 27 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
