Ivan Statilić[edit]

János Statileo is also, firstly, Ivan Statilić. He is from Trogir, born circa 1472, and of Croatian ancestry. He is related to Antun Vrančić of Šibenik and Petar Berislavić, also of Trogir.

Even the Hungarian version of the biography mentions that he is of Dalmatian origin. His mother was the sister of Petar Berislavić - a Croat. https://hu.wikipedia.org/wiki/Statileo_János

This old book shows him with this Croatian name https://books.google.ca/books?id=I2xcAAAAcAAJ&pg=PA64&lpg=PA64&dq=%22Ivan+Statilić

This article classifies him as a "Croatian Humanist" https://www.proquest.com/openview/b04c93635905cb68a9ac31edc6b69dc4/1.pdf?pq-origsite=gscholar&cbl=1820860

Though information about him is sparse. Yes, Ivan / János was bishop of Transylvania but that does not make him Hungarian.

So, where is he fact-checking on Wikipedia to ensure historical truth? 198.251.52.155 (talk) 00:38, 20 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

You are correct. Ivan Statilic was a Croat.
Wikipedia is really bad with people pushing their own agendas and ignoring facts. I am a Croat that lives in Canada. Though I have Canadian citizenship my ethnicity does not change - I am a Croat no matter where in the world I am. ZidarZ (talk) 01:34, 30 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The same problem is happening with Faust Vrančić with some people trying to ethnically appropriating hims as Venetian and claiming that he was "culturally Italian". ZidarZ (talk) 01:36, 30 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned nephew?[edit]

The article says "orphaned nephew, Antun Vrančić". What is the source for that? I know that Berislavic and Statilic took care of Antun's education and there is no mention of where his father was. ZidarZ (talk) 01:38, 30 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

How to add this to Wiki Project Croatia?[edit]

I see that this article is included in the WikiProjects for Hungary and Romania but not Croatia. I am a noob here so I ask - How can that be added to WikiProject Croatia? ... and also to the "Categories" at the bottom of the page.
