Nation of Hawaii?[edit]

In surfing outside of the olympics Hawaii is treated as its own member. It pretty much the same as how the UK in sport sometimes competes as GB and sometimes England, Wales and Scotland with NI being able to include Ireland.

I don't know if Hawaii has a position like this in any other sport, but I doubt it. Equally I am not aware of any other sport where a territorial or ethnic grouping within the US competes internationally. I suspect that tribal authorities would be able to make a case for a separate sporting nation in any given sport if there was an appetite but I am not aware of any examples.

I also don't know to what extent federal recognition of native Hawaiian government features. 102.132.149.110 (talk) 09:56, 9 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
