"when selectors found out he was black"[edit]

I'm not precious about the exact wording, but surely a claim this incendiary needs support from a primary source before it can be presented as fact. This is the reason for my edit. H Remster (talk) 08:14, 1 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Both the paragraph and the citation have now been changed by other contributors, but the source still provides hearsay at best and speculation at worst. The crucial sentence is "In contrast ... unaware of his ethnicity". The scope of "told by his manager Bob Jack" isn't clear: is the reason for the withdrawal of the offer part of what Bob Jack told Jack Leslie? If so, the source tells us (without citation, mind you) that Brian Woolnough said that Jack Leslie said that Bob Jack said that the offer was withdrawn because of Jack Leslie's ethnicity. If the reason for the withdrawal of the offer isn't part of what Bob Jack said, then it's speculation on the part of the author of the cited source. H Remster (talk) 14:48, 1 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
