Having reviewed a pdf ofthe original document submitted to the State of Virginia in their initial consideration of this structure (Historical Shot Tower of Wythe County Virginia) to be included in the National Historical Register, I found that it completely ommited the important contribution made by William Herbert and the Welsh Miners in the original development and building of this structure which took place decades prior to Thomas Jackson even arriving in America. Not to discredit the Jackson family contributions, I find it unfair to give credit where historical accounts clearly show otherwise.

I plan to petition the State of Virgnia to correct the historical marker which incorrectly gives credit to the wrong person and to add a marker identifying the essential truth of the origin of the Shot Tower. The aforementioned pdf does however mention the act of murder by Chiswell and later suicide, alhtough it does sugar-coat it.
