Ryan Adams in the intro?[edit]

I see no reason to single out one "favorite son" for mention in the intro, especially given that there is a subsection listing famous natives of Jacksonville. ForDorothy 23:46, 1 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

ARGUABLY because he is more linked with the town having written about it extensively. Fullerov 16:07, 12 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Notable people born in Jacksonville[edit]

Is anyone checking this list of people born in Jacksonville to see if they are truly notable? Like, for example, the Ninja??

James Hurst 10-08-1922 – 10-24-2013, the author of "The Scarlet Ibis," should be listed as a notable person. The short story was made into an opera and he is part of the legacy of Jacksonville NC before the selection of the area for Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune and Marine Corps Air Station New River. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Blue602 (talkcontribs) 13:19, 4 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Some things of note that I believe should be edited:[edit]

The latest two additions to the famous natives should be removed, those people are not famous.

The external link to topsail-island.info should be removed, the site does not target citizens of Jacksonville.

A link to Jactionville.com should be added to external links. Markfulton 05:08, 29 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Reference to Pawn Shops/Tattoo Parlors, etc[edit]

I have removed that reference since it does not meet citation guidelines as per WP:CITE. I have also tagged this with citation needed. I looked through the Census page and was unable to find anything. If anyone can find this, I will be glad to update it! Rob110178 20:57, 1 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • It's simply a well-written vandalism. I removed it. (Portland, Oregon is generally considered to have the record on strip clubs, at least, if you were curious) Ben (talk) 06:19, 14 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Whoever keeps adding this to the article, please stop. It's simply false. Ben (talk) 03:23, 1 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Intro section[edit]

Per WP:LEAD, mentioning of strip clubs, tattoo parlors, and Jacksonville being "J-action-ville" does not belong in the intro. If it must be included (it has little, if any, encyclopedic value), then the lead is not the place to mention it. APK yada yada 22:13, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Moved last paragraph of lede[edit]

I moved an awkward paragraph to the history section, and added a source. Any argument to bring it back to the lede? VTVLTalk 22:12, 8 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Note that the image shown for "flag" is an old version and that the City flag is that of the City Seal, which is correctly displayed. The image identified as "Logo" is that of the Jacksonville Tourism Development Authority.

The picture identified as LP Willingham Park is actually Riverwalk Crossing Park; LP Willingham Park is the lower end of the same area, but is distinct.

As to source, I was the City of Jacksonville Assistant City Manager and worked for the City for 22 years before working for Onslow County government. Blue602 (talk) 13:25, 4 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
