Needs an Early Life Section[edit]

This is customary and it would be good to know about some of Pepin's formative experiences, his influences, etc. One can also just do the math to see that he was 10 years old living in Europe at the finish of World War II. I'd also like to know a little of those experiences. He is a beloved television figure as well as being a renowned chef, so these things are essential to such a biography.

Navy

He also often refers to his time in the navy. It would be funny if there were any documented stories that could be added.

Added to Pepin's work history[edit]

The discussion of Pepin was expanded by two small additions - one, noting his training at the Plaza Athénée, and the other, noting his column in Food & Wine. CLGroup1 18:20, 4 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

"In 1961, after declining an offer from Joseph Kennedy and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis to serve as chef at the White House..." Surely this is incorrect and he was asked by President John F. Kennedy. 75.49.124.79 (talk) Eric —Preceding undated comment added 17:40, 9 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I'll be darned. I'm reading Pépin's book, "The Apprentice" and it was Joseph Kennedy. ---- Eric

Jewish?[edit]

Can anyone confirm whether Pepin is Jewish, and whether this has influenced his cooking (or, perhaps more pertinently, his early life in Lyon during WWII?) --70.48.207.117 17:56, 6 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I doubt he would be alive if he was Jewish. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.231.236.158 (talk) 17:40, 19 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Even the question "jewish" is really awkward. This "kind of question" is off limit for anyone. It's like "is he black" for a singer. There are so many level of resentiments swinging in this is really bad. Why does Wikopedia is a forum for this "smart" antisemitismn? btw his "Preparing Kohlrabi" is a god give, even for "Krauts". ;) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A02:908:F770:2580:4435:226A:B247:71D4 (talk) 20:48, 30 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Recipe?[edit]

I think the recipe should go to wikicookbooks w/ a link. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.124.29.130 (talk) 08:17, 3 March 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Dates and History[edit]

The article says: He eventually served as a personal chef for Charles de Gaulle and two other French premiers. Upon immigration to the United States in 1959, Pépin turned down a job offer at...

OK, He was born 1935, and immigrated in 1959 at age 24. So he cooked for THREE French premiers by age 24? Where are the references? Proxy User (talk) 05:27, 23 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

not as prestigious as it sounds maybe

he mentions it in this interview and it is related to why he turned down the white house job in favor of Howard Johnson's http://blogs.kqed.org/essentialpepin/jacques-pepin-bio/a-conversation-with-jacques-pepin-nyc-wine-food-festival/ — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.255.170.233 (talk) 05:07, 2 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Awards and Honors[edit]

While I'm sure that Jacques was honored to cook for Obama's fund-raiser, it is not an honor. That should either be moved someplace more appropriate or removed altogether - which is my vote, he's cooked thousands of meals and many for famous people. What is the important point that's being conveyed here? 209.222.202.123 (talk) 20:51, 14 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Today's Gourmet (1991-1993)[edit]

Curious as to why Today's Gourmet (KQED, 1991-1993) isn't listed under his television work. 173.25.185.10 (talk) 03:22, 19 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
