Mother's ancestry

QzDaddy, Jada Pinkett-Smith's mother is Mualatto as she told a magazine. And the term Mulatto is still in use because census has a legal definition of mulatto. It is anyone born to a black parent and a white parent, two Mulatto parents, or to a mulatto parent and a black or a mulatto and a white. father's occupation

We have a link to the contractor disambiguation page, which I'm trying to clean up. I don't know what sort of contractor he was, so for the moment I've opted to link to Independent_contractor. This is a bit of a catch all. If he was a general_contractor please change the link. LeeG 14:26, 3 June 2006 (UTC)

Trivia section

Was it true that Jada auditioned for the role of Will Smith's girlfriend on the Fresh Prince of Bel Air, and didn't get it because she was too short? Or not? (Note: Is that the role that went to Nia Long in the end?)--80.47.106.229 18:08, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

Jada's sibiling

She has a younger brother named Caleeb Pinkett.

Selected filmography

As per Wikipedia is not a collection of lists, I have reduced the "Filmography" section to just the films that have Wiki articles, and renamed it to "Selected filmography" ... people can click the IMDb External link at the end of the article to see the subject's full filmography with links to information about each of their films.

I have also used [[19xx in film|19xx]] tags for the years of the films, something that Some Other Editors do not appear to understand, since they seem to think that just linking [[19xx]] somehow has encyclopedic value.

Anonymous edits without comments may be reverted by anyone.

I am placing this boilerplate message on this Discussion page before I actually make the changes, so that I can just put "see Discussion page" in the edit summary, and hopefully not have my edit summarily reverted as vandalism by Some Other Editor.

Isn't she a scientologist like her hubby, and if so, doesn't that merit a mention? http://www.fametracker.com/blue_moons/mediator_2005_06_14.php —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bassophile (talkcontribs) 09:03, 27 January 2008 (UTC)

Heritage Wars

Hi I've been watching this stupid conflict of editing with heritage. This has become a problem within the last 2 weeks I ask why?? Alot of the statements on heritage from what I've seen have been posted for months and now someone has a problem with it. Some of these actors or actress such as: Sanaa Lathan, Meagan Good, Tionne Watkins, Monica Arnold, Jada Pinkett, and Will Smith have verbally said in some interviews that they have other heritage besides African American. I believe it is fair especially for people whom clearly show physical features that are in no way Sub-Saharan African (Not in my own opinion but seriously have traits that are not African), but are Native American or other to be taken seriously. I have a sad suspension that if only for ex. Monica heritage mentioned was African American with the [citation needed] but after it. That information would not be removed, but because other heritage is included it is targeted. Please negotiate this issue because if you have any knowledge on phenotypic characteristics or have ever listen to these people talk then some type of truce should be met in order not to be biased. Aslo Jada's mother is white for your information if you know anything about her at all, but I saw that the user:All Hallow's Wraith was quick to find references stating that she is African American. Sorry but that does make you look like you have a problem with people having other heritage besides African American.131.230.135.14 (talk) 15:15, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

Jada Pinkett Smith's mother (Adrienne Banfield-Jones) is Caucasian? When did this happen? Pinkett Smith and Banfield-Jones at a film premiere in Los Angeles, 2008 Looks like 131.230.135.14 needs to do a little more research on Pinkett Smith before accusing others of not knowing anything about her.
If people want to claim that Pinkett Smith is this or that, you need to back it up with a citation, otherwise prepare for it to be justifiably reverted. Ms. Sarita (talk) 00:09, 16 September 2008 (UTC)

Yeah it's true her mother is white. Kinda pathetic that this is a fight over what should be written and why somethings are not mentioned. I've also HEARD her in verbal interviews state that she is part Cherokee. My thoughts are not speculation because it is not my own opinion it is what she is. I've added her heritage back with the citation needed to be more open and not so damn one-sided131.230.114.1 (talk) 17:55, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

lol. Idk where that came from Ms. Sarita I've never seen her mother so I have no idea I'm not a celebrity fanatic. So I have no idea if it's true or not or if her mom is half white or whatever. It's hard getting any kind of info like that it seems.Mcelite (talk) 03:12, 16 September 2008 (UTC)

Well, the picture speaks for itself. Banfield-Jones is not Caucasian, so I'on know where the hell that user got that idea from. Ms. Sarita (talk) 05:14, 16 September 2008 (UTC)

Pictures

This article is currently my new project that I'm working on expanding. I would love to add more pictures to the article, but am having a difficult time finding any that will be allowed to be uploaded to Wikipedia. If anyone finds anything, please let me know, or add it to the article! Thanks! Ms. Sarita (talk) 07:52, 5 October 2008 (UTC)

Revision update

Just to let people know, the revision is still under way. I'm almost done. I simply have to revise one more section, add a few more references, and redo tables for the filmography and awards. I am busy this week, but I hope to have the revision complete by the end of next week. Let me know, on my talk page if there is anything you think I should include. Ms. Sarita (talk) 19:17, 14 October 2008 (UTC)

After 2 long weeks, the revision is complete and the article is updated. If there are any discrepencies, please let me know. Now, if we could only get some more photos to integrate into the article. Ms. Sarita (talk) 09:57, 17 October 2008 (UTC)

more or less thoughts

Since you requested a peer review, I thought that I would take a look. What follows will be my overall reactions as I read throughout, contemplating your puzzle over the FA. From time to time, I will add to this comment in the form of edits until I reach the end of your article.

First thoughts are always better than after-thoughts: they are the key to why some readers will discontinue reading after encountering problems.

  1. My first thought was prose. The lead is very good, easily read, so I doubt seriously if prose was a concern throughout.
The lead was never a problem. – Ms. Sarita Confer 06:14, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
  2. My second thought was images. The article could use (and most featured articles have) many more images. I suspect that if you analyze the other featured articles you will see easily your need for more images.
The article had two other images; both were screenshots from films that Pinkett Smith has been in. It was concluded during the GA review and the FAC process that these images were not entirely necessary. I've been having problems finding other images of Pinkett Smith. – Ms. Sarita Confer 06:14, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
  3. In the subsection "Early Life", you begin the first sentence (i.e. TOPIC SENTENCE) of the entire section with the subject of your article (PINKETT SMITH); yet, you then suddenly shift your reader's attention away from the main topic (SMITH) onto Smith's mother (BANFIELD-JONES). This is to say, your second...third, fourth, and fifth sentences are about Banfield-Jones. Consequently, it would appear that something needs to be done immediately to clear the confusion which is caused by the sudden transition, lack of cohesion, etcetera. Slight rewording of the first sentence is probably the key. For example, maybe you should begin the subsection with "Adrienne Banfield-Jones (née Banfield) married Robsol Pinkett, Jr.; and, on September 18, 1971, Jada Plinkett Smith was born." Then, sentences two, three, four, and five easily fit in. Yet, something like this may cause havoc with the lead. Regardless of how you correct this shifting of subjects, a correction is necessary. (I will be back with more later.)--Anne Teedham (talk) 17:10, 25 January 2009 (UTC)
It's extremely difficult for me to rewrite this section. I've been staring at it ever since I completed the revision back in October 2008 and I haven't the slightest clue as to how to revise it without screwing with the content. This is why I needed a fresh pair of eyes. A copyeditor has agreed to go over the article. Perhaps it's better for him/her to fine tune this section. – Ms. Sarita Confer 06:14, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
  4. Confusion seems to be the primary problem in the subsection "Early Life". For example, in the following sentence it is difficult for a reader who has read from the beginning of the "Early Life" (until encountering this sentence) to understand who is who. "Pinkett Smith remains close to her mother, and has stated, 'A mother and daughter's relationship is usually the most honest, and we are so close,' when she[who} participated as the maid of honor in Banfield-Jones' marriage to her[whose] husband, telecommunications executive Paul Jones[where'd he come from?], in 1998."
(a) when she participated... This is a bit troubling because of the introduction of "close to her mother" since we now have mother in the same sentence. By this I mean, we need to try to juggle both Pinkett Smith and mother in our brain cells (which have been challenged by all the above sentences before this one). Yet then when we read in the sentence's conclusion "her husband" and "Paul Jones", we are thoroughly baffled—that is, we really do not know who is who. Where did Paul Jones come from? This confusion is merely an extension of the earlier confusion which was caused by the shifting of subjects at the very beginning from sentence 1 to sentence 2.

So I would say that confusion caused by shifting subjects and introduction of too many names is/was a concern of the FA review. Or, in other words, "Early Life" needs to be rewritten from the point of view of clarity.--Anne Teedham (talk) 21:31, 26 January 2009 (UTC)

Tom Cruise / Scientology caption

The caption in the image, "Pinkett Smith and her husband are friends with actor Tom Cruise, and have been criticized for supporting a school with ties to the Church of Scientology", is a run-on sentence and seems to cast a number of aspersions by innuendo. It seems an unnecessary adornment of a paragraph about the subject - what does seeing a photo of Tom Cruise in Smith's biography add? That has the feel of a lowbrow human interest newspaper story. Although it is undeniable that there is controversy surrounding Scientology, why not hit that head on if it really relates to Smith, but only Smith's relationship to it if it is a real controversy? I don't know that it's fair to add a section seems to assume there is somethign wrong in each biography of any person who has anything to do with Scientology or Scientologists. Synopsis

Jada Pinkett Smith is a pretty minor actress. Does she really need a synopsis that makes her sound like Meryl Streep, Gloria Steinem and Chrissie Hynde rolled into one? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.150.107.33 (talk) 11:56, 5 July 2009 (UTC) - Mr Ishh.

"Jada Pinkett Smith is a pretty minor actress."[by whom?]
I don't quite understand. Jada Pinkett Smith has been in the acting business for two decades, therefore, her history in the industry should be rather long, highlighting points in her career. What about the synopsis makes her sound like "Meryl Streep, Gloria Steinem and Chrissie Hynde rolled into one"? Thank you for the feedback, but if you feel this way, why not change it?
Ms. Sarita Confer 01:20, 13 March 2010 (UTC)

Since I write my first comment above a year ago, this page has become more modest. The first time round it seemed like Jada Pinkett Smith was the greatest actress and musician in the world. Mr Ishh. (26th July, 2010)

I suggest adding to the article that Jada and her husband hosted the concert in Oslo, Norway, in 2009. Dugnad (talk) 13:54, 10 October 2010 (UTC)

Just mentioned it. BTW, Jada loves Norway, the country of fairy tales. :) Dugnad (talk) 10:47, 11 January 2011 (UTC)

What happened to this article?

I haven't thoroughly checked this article in over 2 years. But what happened to it? I see some of the prose has been cleaned up and some unnecessary stuff taken out. (Which is awesome...thanks Wiki editors!) But, now there's grammar, spelling, spacing, and other simple errors that have really messed with the flow of the page and is extremely distracting (at least to me). What's the deal folks? This is a Good Article. Simple problems like this can jeopardize the status of this page... OK for me to go through it again? – Ms. Sarita Confer 20:45, 23 August 2011 (UTC)

Added Jason's Lyric (1994)

Gotta wonder why this somewhat high profile film was not listed in the first place. Probably better known, remembered than most of her other credits. Could it be on purpose? Frazierdp (talk) 05:49, 10 July 2018 (UTC)

Why does Scream 2 say "Credited as "Jada Pinkett" ?

In that film, and all the films before she married Will Smith, she would have been credited as Jada Pinkett. Why is that one any different? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:A61:5134:5001:41DF:D49:E98E:E81F (talk) 10:32, 14 August 2019 (UTC)

Separated?

Finally there is a reason to say it.

The least you could have done is say that at some point they were separated. Even now it's not clear for how long.— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 19:43, 12 July 2020 (UTC)

"Partner" in infobox

I've undone the edit that refers to Smith's "partner" in the infobox as August Alsina. She was in no more than a brief relationship with him, and I don't think it was sufficiently important to warrant a mention in the infobox. Kohlrabi Pickle (talk) 06:55, 15 July 2020 (UTC)
