Split request[edit]

I just found out that Epicgenius is proposing splitting this article off as "Jamaica Savings Bank (original building)." That's an interesting offer, and I'd like to support it. The only problem I've got is this is actually the second headquarters for the bank, even if it's on the same site as the first one. DanTD, thanks, I did not realize that. Maybe the split article can be titled something similar to "Jamaica Savings Bank (Jamaica Avenue)". I think I wrote those, the original branch office was the first bank, the second branch was the Sutphin branch, the third was across the street from the office, and the forth is the de-landmarked branch in Elmhurst on Queens Blvd., (now BofA). Since the original office and facade has now been renovated and is part of the Burlington complex (a Jollibee franchise will occupy soon) Maybe I'll fix that...CaptJayRuffins (talk) 17:40, 4 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Split? As the article's Legacy section concedes, there no longer is an entity with the name Jamaica Bank. JSB was just one of a bakers dozen banks acquired by NFB; once NFB was acquired by CAP1, it was simply renamed CAP1. Meanwhile, the late First Nationwide Savings Bank, which was acquired by HSBC, is not even mentioned in the HSBC article. Furthermore, most of the USA "retail" account of the combined HSBC were dumped into the hands of Citizens Bank; a portion of the buildings that once housed an HSBC retail branch are now "wealth centers" and the rest are awaiting their next use. With the push for online banking, Bricks are becoming Clicks, and what's left is the memories of those who stood in line at a bank. For now, at least it's not "what's a bank?" P.S. Only 3 of the 13 citations are to newspapers (dated 1938, 1941, 1948). Perhaps the article should get more citations for the half a century from the aforementioned 1948 thru the 1999 acquisition by North Fork Bank. Nuts240 (talk) 09:59, 3 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

My concern is the period between 1866 and 1897, before the NRHP-listed building. However, since the proposed name was changed to Jamaica Savings Bank (Jamaica Avenue), the third HQ building has become an issue. I think that's why I have to stick with my original suggestion of "Jamaica Savings Bank (original headquarters)." If I'm not mistaken, the point behind the renaming is that not every building JSB owned had landmark status of any kind, like three of the four HQ buildings did. ---------User:DanTD (talk) 11:21, 26 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Last words[edit]

I wrote these and it's plain to see that due to 4 of the branches (2 still active as CapOne branches) that are on Jamaica Ave makes it easier to re-write the article as one and incorporate all the branches.
