The Peruvian government founded the Peruvian Nitrate Company apparently in 1876. See the "Notes upon the nitrate business of Peru" in the The British Trade Journal and Export World Volume 16 of 1878. It seems that an earlier endeavor founded the extraction facility at La Palma if that was in 1872, and then that was incorporated into the new Peruvian Nitrate Company. Also, since Humberstone did not go to Peru until 1875, it would have been difficult for him to found an extraction plant there three years earlier. The first chairman of the Peruvian Nitrate Company seems to have been F.G. Calderon with 800 out of the initial 8,000 shares. See above page 535. --Bejnar (talk) 06:16, 31 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
