Bulk[edit]

The bulk of this article was cut and pasted from the book's article. The book's article had mainly been about the tv series until that change. Attached to that article, there is a lot of discussion (most of it mine) about changes that need to be made to the characters for the tv series. I am cutting and pasting the parts that remain relevant that here. Ronstew 03:31, 28 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Characters: Jane[edit]

Proposed changes:

This section could be tightened up. It contains more detail than necessary. Facts that are not in the show itself (things found only on the YTV site) might be deleted.

Need to remove hyperbole like "that fateful day".

Might remove references to the rescue of Prince Cuthbert, since it was already covered in About the Series, and because the time and place become confusing. In the "now" she is an apprentice, not a lady in waiting.

Sentence about Gunther is confusing.

It simply is not true that "she is always with Dragon." They sleep in different places, for instance. Ronstew 04:34, 3 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

User Anacist changed the name of the actress who plays Jane from Tajja Isen to Jane Beck. Tajja Isen definitely voices Jane, at least in the Canadian release. I cite imdb, but there are other references too. I can't see why another voice might be necessary for other markets, since the Canadian actress affects a bit of a British accent. I have reverted to Tajja Isen, and will need proof that Jane Beck has anything to do with the show. Ronstew 21:49, 7 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
HELLO ANACIST!! Please provide a citation about Jane Beck. Please refute my claim that the actress is Tajja Isen. Otherwise, we'll just be in a reversion war, and that serves no purpose. Ronstew 01:36, 13 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Characters: Dragon[edit]

The traps in Dragon's lair are not helpful in describing Dragon.

Ambiguous - where did Dragon and Jane meet?

Unclear: "He barely knew his mother as he did about his father." Did he know his father? How well?

The fact that he was used as cattle (whatever that means) does not help us to know him better. Ronstew 04:45, 3 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Characters: Jester[edit]

The sentence, "He receives free tutoring and lodging, but doesn’t get paid for his position as Court Jester," is straight from the YTV site, and does not really help us. But I left it in for now. Ronstew 05:08, 3 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps the YTV profile could be used as a reference and we can paraphrase this? 174.92.133.112 (talk) 05:50, 21 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Capitalisation[edit]

From the Wikipedia style manual:

"Titles "Titles such as president, king, or emperor start with a capital letter when used as a title (followed by a name): "President Nixon", not "president Nixon". When used generically, they should be in lower case: "De Gaulle was the French president." The correct formal name of an office is treated as a proper noun. Hence: "Hirohito was Emperor of Japan." Similarly, "Louis XVI was the French king" but "Louis XVI was King of France", King of France being a title in that context. Likewise, capitalize royal titles: "Her Majesty" or "His Highness". (Reference: Chicago Manual of Style 14th ed., 7.16; The Guardian Manual of Style, "Titles" keyword.) Exceptions may apply for specific offices."

So the king is King Caradoc. The prince is Prince Cuthbert, etc. Knight is never capitalized. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ronstew (talkcontribs) 03:31, 28 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Dispute[edit]

HELLO ANACIST!! Please provide a citation about Jane Beck. Please refute my claim that the actress is Tajja Isen. Note my citations. Otherwise, we'll just be in a reversion war, and that serves no purpose. Ronstew 01:36, 13 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, and read up on what constitutes a minor change. It means changing punctuation or something, not changing facts. Ronstew 01:38, 13 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

@Ronstew: may want to try @Anacist: if you want someone's attention. 174.92.133.112 (talk) 05:51, 21 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Historical Accuracy[edit]

I was thinking about starting a section on historical accuracies and inaccuracies on the show (names, titles, social structure, language, etc.). i didn't look too hard but already found one fan forum that talks a bit about this... I think a lot could be written on this subject (lot of Tv show articles seem to have something about historical/scientific accuracy). Anybody else think this is a good idea? --RainbowWerewolf (talk) 20:52, 16 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I don't. The show has no historical accuracy whatsoever. It's a fantasy; it doesn't need historical accuracy. For instance, the fact that there is no such thing as dragons does not diminish the entertainment value of the programme. Lets put our attention into trimming the fat in the article instead of adding to the fat. Ronstew (talk) 02:11, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think it would be fat if it were done well. Jane is more accuarate in portraying the middle ages than a lot of other children's media. It only has one fantastical element, the dragon. The idealogical and cultural identities of the characters are firmly embedded in history. For example, the fact that Jane belives that King Caradoc should be king because of his birth (King's Knight) is realistic because she would not have encountered ideas about democracy. On the Qubo site, it does talk about how Jane's last name Turnkey, is related to how (in the middle ages) they used to name people after their professions.
And in a larger context, it would be great to compare depictions of social structure and kingship with other popular children's media such as Disney films...there's the interesting reference to Joan of Arc in the name of Jane's ancestors... there are plenty more details, but since a lot of this might be considered original research, we can't add too much... but wouldn't this be great content if the references existed, and a great way to expand the article, should we choose to do so? But Ok, I admit it is pretty strange to have only a dozen people living in a castle. Peace and safe travelling, --RainbowWerewolf (talk) 07:28, 9 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Because of people's short lifespans at the time, persons of Jane's age would have considerably more responsibility than they do today, but they would probably be apprentices. However, we don't know that there are only twelve people living in the castle, only that there are only twelve people that we ever see. Even when the king had a ball, we could hear all of the other people but only saw these twelve. Good luck on this path though. — Val42 (talk) 22:56, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
@RainbowWerewolf: I think 2 fantastical elements, you forgot the never-seen wizard that Rake is afraid of. Knowing a wizard is watching is probably part of why so many people can relax with a dragon around or rely on a child for defending the perimeter of their lands. 174.92.133.112 (talk) 05:56, 21 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:JatDLogo.png[edit]

Image:JatDLogo.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Characters: Sir Theodore[edit]

I kind of like the Sir Theodore section the way it is, but a lot of the stuff is from the episode "Last of the Dragonslayers." There's a little bit of it that's not really about Sir Theodore. Isn't it also a bit of a spoiler? I enjoyed watching the episode not knowing what Sir Theodore and Dragon would do. Perhaps some info from this episode should be put into a synopsis section (which seems to be kind of what the "about the series" section is). It is after all an important revelation in terms of the development of the characters. --RainbowWerewolf (talk) 08:21, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Trivia[edit]

I took the liberty and removed the trivia section as it was original research and in my personal opinion rather useless. The show begins, events happen, problem is solved, (almost) everybody is happy, until the next episode. 71.247.159.243 (talk) 01:19, 12 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dragon runes[edit]

I think that there should be a section on the dragon runes that they've decoded, with references. There haven't been that many dragon runes that they've discovered, so this wouldn't be a very large section. — Val42 (talk) 23:04, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The section on the Merchant is copied from qubo's "Meet the Cast" page on him. 65.173.177.183 (talk) 02:04, 12 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Is anyone watching this page? 206.104.146.64 (talk) 00:16, 22 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I've rewritten the section. 65.173.178.9 (talk) 16:37, 22 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

References[edit]

References 2, 3, and 15 no longer work because of changes to qubo's website. Reference 11 isn't working either. 65.173.177.183 (talk) 02:20, 12 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

episode order according to Zap2it[edit]

According to the Jane and the Dragon Episode Guide at https://tvlistings.zap2it.com/overview.html?programSeriesId=SH00779972

  • "Dragon's Egg" is Episode 22 (23 in Wikipedia article),
  • "Mismatched" is Episode 23 (22 in Wikipedia article), and
  • "For Crying Out Loud" is Episode 25 (26 in Wikipedia article).

Zap2it has made mistakes before, though.

Still, if any (generally) reliable source is ever in error, might be wise to note it in the article (or in the editing area's hidden text, which i don't recall how to do) so well-meaning editors don't "update" the article with flawed info.
