Complaints[edit]

"EastEnders' teenage stabbing plot sparks 200 complaints to the BBC". Don't people realise this was done for a reason? anemoneprojectors 00:00, 24 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Complaints soar about Eastenders knife episode... but why? A very good reponse. anemoneprojectors 15:14, 25 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Eastenders chose to do a storyline on stabbing to show how affected London are by all the crime in the area. It showed reality and Eastenders wanted people to see it to make kids think twice about stabbing someone in the future. In my opinion, it wasn't as bad as i heard it was going to be, you never saw the knife 'go in' Jay and the next time you see him, he's lying in hospital awake and looking alright. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Weatherbed (talkcontribs) 20:57, 21 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

James?[edit]

Where has it ever been stated that in EastEnders, Jay is short for James? The name Jase is clearly short for Jason, that I don't have a problem with. The name Jay, according to Wiki as of now, would suggest it's short for Jason, James, Gerald or George. Since the kid's probably been named after his father at some point in the character's life, it's most likely Jason or James. NKTP (talk) 10:23, 17 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure but Bert might of called him James once. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.170.149.133 (talk) 18:50, 23 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yolande called him "James" on 8 February 2007. AnemoneProjectors (talk) 14:33, 24 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No family[edit]

He claimed he had no family left when Jase died...what about Bert? Or does Jay not consider him family as Bert couln't look after him properly? db1987db (talk) 13:27, 5 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

At the hospital when talking to Billy he mentioned Bert had left him. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.170.149.133 (talk) 15:37, 5 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oh yeah that's true...I remember Bert seeing that Jay would be alright staying with Jase, so left... db1987db (talk) 17:46, 5 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Mitchell[edit]

His name is changed now, —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.0.247.184 (talk) 17:57, 7 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks? AnemoneProjectors 21:25, 7 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Haha. Article name is Brown per WP:COMMONNAME :-) GSorby Chat with Me! 22:00, 7 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
He's known as Jay Mitchell now, it should be changed. Sam10123 (talk) 00:07, 20 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
No, article name is Brown as per WP:COMMONNAME :) --5 albert square (talk) 00:15, 20 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Everything calls him Jay Mitchell now, common name says that it is what the person is best known by, therefore this article should be JAY MITCHELL. User:EastBelfastBoy
A Google source shows 3,650 results for Jay Mitchell and 9,750 for Jay Brown, excluding Wikipedia. He's still been known as Jay Brown for the majority of his time in the series since he joined in 2006. –AnemoneProjectors– 12:41, 16 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Because he was Jay Brown before and its been for longer but now he is better known as Jay Mitchell and by rule of Common Name, it should be changed to Mitchell if he is better known by it. EastBelfastBoy (talk) 13:19, 16 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Not necessarily correct. Current name doesn't mean common name. –AnemoneProjectors– 13:20, 16 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Can I now ask for a change to Mitchell as by typing Jay Mitchell eastenders gives far more results than Jay Brown eastenders.Dontforgetthisone (talk) 19:40, 2 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think we should change this yet, he's been known as Brown for years. WP:COMMONNAME. GSorbyPing 18:08, 6 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I am wondering though if people are starting to forget he was ever called Jay Brown. I usually tend to think of him as Jay Mitchell. –AnemoneProjectors– 14:11, 9 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
So is a name change needed now? Dontforgetthisone (talk) 18:40, 9 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I attempted the move, but the page is move protected, which is unsurprising. Anemone will move it tomorrow if it's okay with him. GSorbyPing 18:52, 9 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I feel we should do a vote :) –AnemoneProjectors– 15:27, 10 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I thought things were done by consensus? GSorbyPing 17:55, 10 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
This should be a simple one, just see if the google hits are now more for Mitchell than Brown? Bleaney (talk) 18:09, 10 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I call him Mitchell, but thats cause I only started watching EE 2 years ago, so majority of thats been Mitchell. BUT, I still feel it should be Brown. MayhemMario 20:27, 10 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Well I have been watching EastEnders since 2001 and I call him Mitchell. Google hits more for Mitchell (355,000 results) than Brown (102,000 results). GSorbyPing 21:15, 10 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Limiting those to full name searches ("Jay Brown" EastEnders and "Jay Mitchell" EastEnders) gives only 11,100 results for Mitchell and 111,000 for Brown. GNews: Mitchell = 3; Brown = 27. HighBeam: Mitchell = 2; Brown = 7. Questia: Mitchell = 0; Brown = 10. On that basis, I would oppose a move. Frickative 21:25, 10 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Based on Frikative's statistics, I would oppose a move too. Bleaney (talk) 21:42, 10 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Me too. –AnemoneProjectors– 14:25, 11 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Brown or Mitchell[edit]

I've noticed that Jay's surname has been changed from Mitchell to Brown but he is still being credited as Mitchell but on the program Jay refers to him self as Brown?--Anna2123456789 (talk) 18:58, 18 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

On the official BBC Website his was listed under the Mitchells section for a while, however having checked today, I reliazed he has been moved to Others, and is now down as Jay Brown. So, Brown. — M.Mario (T/C) 21:24, 18 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah I thought it odd when he said his name was Jay Brown the other day, and Billy told him off for giving his real name! This is good, though. –AnemoneProjectors– 16:19, 20 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It doesnt make much difference to us here. Obviously Jay is using his old surname as he doesnt feel he belongs to the Mitchells any more. That said, he did change his name by deedpoll, and unless he's changed it back he is still legally a Mitchell. Anyways he is listed as Brown on here, and I see no reason to change that unless we can prove that he is more commonly known as Mitchell, despite what he calls himself on the show. Bleaney (talk) 17:07, 20 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
True. This discussion was about the article lead rather than the title. I guess for the lead, we should go with what the credits say, which is Mitchell. –AnemoneProjectors– 17:18, 20 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Piccy[edit]

Any chance of a more recent image? He's certainly grown up a lot since the 2011 one! –AnemoneProjectors– 20:23, 23 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Half-brothers and sisters?[edit]

Noticed that Summer, William and Janet are listed as his adoptive and foster half-siblings. Whilst this is factually true, is it really needed here? If anything - Ben should've been listed as a foster brother. Alex250P (talk) 17:56, 1 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

But Billy fostered Jay, not Phil. You may have a point, but Ben was more of a best friend. Maybe we should remove them all...? –AnemoneProjectors– 18:06, 1 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I think they should all be removed. Billy never adopted Jay, just fostered him, so he has no legal half-brothers or sisters from Billy's side. There is probably more of an argument to list Ben & Louise as his adopted siblings, as Jay did change his name by deed poll to become a 'Mitchell' after he left Billy to stay with Phil. But seeing as He has been disowned by Phil, and Jay was too old to be 'adopted' legally by Phil, I feel that Jay should have NO brothers or sisters listed here. Bleaney (talk) 19:53, 1 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I agree, but what about Summer, as I remember Dawn added Jase's name on her birth certificate - making him her legal and adoptive father Alex250P (talk) 00:13, 2 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
If she did, then fine. I'm guessing Summer & Jay shared scenes together???? If they did then Summer is his half sister and should be listed. Bleaney (talk) 00:16, 2 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
They did yes, Jay had a lot of scenes with Dawn/Summer especially after Jase's death, I think she should be listed and maybe Billy as his foster father - but not the others. Alex250P (talk) 00:22, 2 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I agree about Summer being listed then, but not Billy. Bleaney (talk) 00:24, 2 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Billy IS his foster father so SHOULD be listed. Summer, being adopted by Jase, should then be listed as Jay's adoptive half-sister. But definitely not Ben (as Phil has not adopted Jay and anyone can change their name to anything by deed poll, it doesn't make them related), and I agree that we probably shouldn't list Janet and William for the reasons given. –AnemoneProjectors– 10:22, 2 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Departure[edit]

Jay did leave the show on 9 September 2016. But do we know that he is never returning? Metro published an article on 9 September 2016 that stated: "We aren’t able to give away whether this is the last time you can expect to see Jay…" Is it possible he is taking a temporary hiatus?

I saw on Twitter that he is definintely returning (i.e he has not actually left at all), but I can't remember who posted it, it was reliable though. anemoneprojectors 09:48, 20 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Jay ‘Brown’[edit]

Edits have been made for Jay to appear as ‘Pearce-Brown’ on here but if you watch the credits of 26/01/23 episode, whilst Lola is credited as that, Jay remains credited as ‘Brown’. 2A02:C7F:D82D:9400:49B:D4FD:DAAA:738E (talk) 11:27, 26 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Updated character image picture[edit]

Is it possible if anyone who knows the correct way of doing it, can update Jay’s character picture to a promotional or snapshot picture of him that has been taken more recently. His current image has been there since 2011 and the actors look has matured since then. The character is 28 years old now and not the 17-year old he was at the time of his current picture. 2A02:C7C:360D:1600:659F:171A:EF26:190E (talk) 02:19, 31 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
