how to describe Lehmann's 04/05 yoyo act[edit]

I really hate this paragraph:

Lehmann has a confident, aggressive style of play, often coming out of his goal to intercept passes; however this, coupled with his lack of ability in the air, has led to some costly high-profile mistakes when playing for Arsenal, such as their 2004 Champions League quarter-final loss to Chelsea. By the middle of the 2004-05 season, Lehmann was no longer automatic first-choice, with Manuel Almunia being selected for some matches instead. However, Almunia then began to make many mistakes himself, allowing Lehmann to regain his position. At the end of that season, Lehmann produced a man-of-the-match performance against Manchester United in the 2005 FA Cup final, making numerous saves to keep the score 0-0 after extra time, and then crucially saving Paul Scholes' shot in the penalty shootout, which Arsenal won 5-4.

It strikes me as unencyclopædic at best and POV at worst (especially the "confident, aggressive style of play" bit). Unfortunately, I can't think of a better way to put it. Recommendations?--MarkGallagher 19:19, 9 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

International Retirement?[edit]

No, he hasn't retired from international football yet. He just made a statement, which tells us that it's possible that he could resign right before the World Cup. Klinsmann hasn't made a clear decision yet which goalkeeper to pick as his No.1, although it's quite obvious that Kahn is leading in this race. Lehmann said, that he has been a subsititute in two previous World Cups and that he doesn't "feel comfortable" to do so a third time. Lehmann's chances of claiming the #1 spot for the 2006 World Cup have actually improved drastically in recent weeks, due to continuous good performances with Arsenal London, while Kahn's performance has been dwindling. Many experts and sports newspapers in Germany see Lehmann in the lead now. On the other hand, influential Bayern Munich bosses Beckenbauer, Rummenigge and Uli Hoeness want to see Kahn at the World Cup, and they put considerable pressure on national team manager Jürgen Klinsmann. Villareal Champions League Semifinal[edit]

For one, Lehmann breaking Edwin van der Sar's Champions League record for consecutive scoreless minutes is a personal achievement of great note. If that does note belong on his wikipedia article, then you should delete everything except for his name and his birthday. And the fact that he saved a late penalty (in the same game that he broke the record) against one of the world's best players to send Arsenal to their FIRST EVER EUROPEAN CUP FINAL is something that all Arsenal fans will remember as long as they live and should be catalogued. Fast update![edit]

'In the 2006 Champions League Final Lehmann was sent off in the 17th minute for bringing down Barcelona forward Samuel Eto'o to prevent him from scoring. Barcelona forward Ludovic Giuly knocked the ball into the empty net, but the goal was not allowed as the referee declared the play dead due to Lehmann's foul.'

It only happened about 20 minutes ago! :-O

the notes in his sock[edit]

was this legal? ive herd that it wasnt, but i have also herd that it was. but im sure that he would have been able to block them without the notes for how talented he is ;)

RED/YELLOW Card[edit]

Can some one tell me how many RED/YELLOW cards he has had.. im woundering if he has a record as he is the only keeper i seen Punch Push and Fight and get sent off more than any other ..

Anglocentricism[edit]

The details of Lehmann's career are skewed greatly towards his time at Arsenal. 274 appearances for Shalke 04 is covered in 174 words, 129 Borussia Dortmund games takes up 37 words, but his 147 Arsenal games take up 1,230! His time in the Bundesliga needs expanding, and his Premier League career also needs to be pared back. Dancarney (talk) 08:40, 4 June 2008 (UTC) No it doesn't. In case you hadn't noticed this is the English version of wikipedia. Therefore, it is reasonable to have more stuff about the Premier League than the Bundesligia. Schalke Goal against Dortmund[edit]

In the Schalke paragraph, someone says his last minute equaliser against Dortmund was offside. If you watch this video, that is clearly not the case [1] He is infact being kept onside by 3 Dortmund players when the ball is hooked back in: the goalie, the defender at the near post and the guy who falls over jumping for the ball when it 1st comes in. And as we all know you only need two members of the opposing team to keep you onside. Many bitter Dortmund fans have argued it was offside just because they never want to believe he scored against them, but it wasn't (but I can understand why at 1st look it could appear offside) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.103.212.180 (talk) 20:14, 13 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Inconsistent Arsenal Apps[edit]

The number of apps listed for Lehmann for Arsenal is inconsistent throughout the article.

In the infobox (which lists senior domestic league apps only) is says 199 for his first stint, followed by one for his second. In the Return to Arsenal section, it lists his first league game back against Blackpool as his 200th for Arsenal, but does not specify whether this is league games or all competitions ("200th game for Arsenal" would imply 200th game in all competitions, which doesn't add up when compared to the infobox). Then in the stats box (which does not yet list the 2010-11 season), it shows him having played 145 league games in his first stint (inconsistent with the infobox), and 194 games in all competitions. Neither of these numbers plus the one game in the current season equals 200 games.

So to summarize, the infobox says he has played 200 league games for Arsenal, the body section says 200 games [presumably in all competitions], and the club stats section would say (if it were up to date) 146 league games and 195 games overall. Something clearly has to be done to not only find the correct numbers for these sections, but also to check over all the numbers listed in this article, as they, too, could be incorrect. I just noticed the BBC is calling today's match Lehmann's 200th Arsenal appearance here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/teams/a/arsenal/9453494.stm so it may be possible all the actual stats on his Wikipedia page are wrong. I also want to point out that the German page for Lehmann lists him having played 147 presumably league games for Arsenal during his first stint in the infobox, which is inconsistent to anything listed on the English page.
