May be confusing two brothers[edit]

The death notice for the day has a Jeremiah Nolan dying, but lists a Gerald as a brother. I wonder if the Gerald/Jerry were two different people? http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article22419918

Yeah reckon you're right, a Jeremiah Lucius Nolan took his matriculation exam in 1887, which would seem to fit with Jerry's birth year.[1]
Seems Jeremiah though was known as "Lou Nolan", his obituary in a 1947 Jesuit Society of Australia report reads:

Jeremiah Lucius Nolan. better known as "Lou." passed to his eternal reward in April of this year. He was at St.Patrick's in the late 80's. and was a great athlete. nothing out of the way with all the Nolans-Jack. "Herb." Tom. Bernard. Charlie and "RM." Lou's name was one to swear by as a runner. and as a strange coincidence a contemporary of Lou's. Our best footballer Fred Sheahan passed away about the same time. On leaving college Lou joined the Board of Works. and by hard work and application to his studies rose to become the Engineer of the Water Supply of M .B.W . Lou retired some years ago but his love for the open air and his profession was too strong and led him to assist many of our institutions in laying out their grounds. To his wife and sons we extend our sympathy. May he rest in peace.

No Gerald listed, but it may just be he wasn't a noted footballer. Jevansen (talk) 08:06, 16 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
