During the 2018/19 season Lingard did not do much. 2405:201:804:77BE:44A5:F8EB:9181:34F2 (talk) 10:51, 4 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Can Lingard still be considered a national team player?[edit]

In the lead section of the page, it claims that Lingard plays currently “for the England national team”. However, as I write this, he has not received a call-up in over two years (last call-up was in March 2021). Therefore, can it really be included that he plays for the England national team, and how long after the most recent call-up can it be before the player is no longer considered a national team player? Thanks Sizewell (talk) 19:39, 3 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Sizewell: Convention is to consider players to no longer be active at international level after two years without a call-up. I don't know where you're getting March 2021 from, as his last appearance for England to date was on 9 October 2021. Mattythewhite (talk) 20:06, 3 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Mattythewhite: Ah okay, I got March 2021 from the page itself, but it must require an update! Thank you. Sizewell (talk) 20:09, 3 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Nottingham forest (0) Goals[edit]

Jesse lingard has scored 2 Goals for forest. 1 against spurs 1 against rovers Could somebody update this if possible? Cxluxy (talk) 12:06, 12 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Cxluxy: Hello. If you mean in the stats box at the top right, those figures are only for matches and goals in the domestic league – it says so in small print at the bottom of the box – so 17 (0) is correct there. But the EFL Cup goals are counted in the career stats table lower down, and I've just changed the wording in the Forest section of the prose to include a mention of them. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 12:39, 12 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

FA Cup, Community Shield, EFL cup[edit]

It should say “one of only four players” to score in each of the three finals as Yaya Toure has scored in all three, but is not listed on the referenced article due to the game not being played at Wembley (mentioned in the article but not on this page) so Lingard is one of four (possibly more) players to have achieved this feat. 2A00:23C7:8119:2C01:CC9E:5A90:2209:BB51 (talk) 16:44, 7 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I personally think this warrants highlighting. We should describe him in his summary as amongst the exemplary English players of his generation. Having won the UEFA Europa League, FA Cup, FA Community Shield, and EFL Cup, and being one of only four players to score in all of the latter three finals puts him in a unique category that is worth underlining. I really don't like this English media attempt to paint him as an underachiever given his world class natural talent, his individual accolades at club level as well as his unique achievements as outlined already should not be overlooked. Yes, he didn't achieve the level of Ronaldinho despite all his talent (but name me one English player who has), this should not take away from the fact that, despite some relative inconsistency over the course of his career, he was world class for vast stretches of time. He was, along with Harry Kane, head and shoulders above the rest of the English squad. Honestly, the only reason I can think of him not being talked about as amongst the greatest English players of his generation is the British media's perennial bias against players who help proliferate hip hop culture or who know how to rap. 2604:3D09:37F:DB10:ADCD:602E:42B9:4556 (talk) 04:28, 9 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Amongst the greatest English players of his generation[edit]

So shouldn't we at least discuss including in his summary that he is often regarded as one of the greatest English players of his generation? See for example the comments of top professionals; Rob Holding said he was his tougest opponent, Wayne Rooney proclaimed that he was "world class", and Thiago Silva described him as a hot raging tiger in a plain full of wilderbeast. I don't think I need to list the full extent of highly renowned pundits and expert journalists who have pronounced him to be amongst the greatest English players of his generation, this is widely known. Thus, as a natural corollary of that, and especially considering the advancement of the game since the days of Pele and Beckenbaur, I feel it's only fair and just that we should discuss his status as amongst the very finest wingers the British game has seen, at least from a modern standpoint. 2604:3D09:37F:DB10:ADCD:602E:42B9:4556 (talk) 04:15, 9 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
