The Pulse[edit]

There is very little detail from her time on The Pulse - her role in revealing the Green Goblin's identity, for example. Hermiod 16:30, 6 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Jessica Drew info/Citation request[edit]

I recall reading somewhere that Bendis has disavowed the "Alias-was-supposed-to-star-Jessica Drew" line, stating that he always intended for Alias to have a new central character. I'll have to go through my old Wizard magazines to find a citation for this.--Galliaz 11:10, 22 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

people still question how jessica jones is part of marvels company on the Netflixs film,Jessica jone turns out to be kid inopropriat kids can not watch this show on netflixs thank you for ur time! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.67.86.152 (talk) 02:19, 24 January 2020 (UTC) Comic Book Urban Legends Revealed #61 cites the source to Comic Book Resources, reprinted in the letter column of Powers #11.[reply]

Thanks for the citation. Interestingly enough, it seems we have Bendis on record saying two different things! In the CBR piece presently cited in the entry (from Oct 2005), BMB says that when he first thought up the idea for the book, he did want Jessica Drew to "star" in it. However, the material cited in the "Urban Legends Revealed" piece has him on record saying something slightly different. BMB's main point, it seems to me, is that by the time he was well on his way to developing his full creative vision for the comic, the main character was definitely Jessica Jones, and not Jessica Drew. I suppose the second paragraph of the entry should be slightly changed to reflect this. --Galliaz 13:24, 1 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Heroic Career[edit]

In Alias JJ tells Luke Cage that Killgrave never sexually assaulted her, though she certainly experienced a form of sexual abuse while under his control. I don't think the entry would be correct if it simply stated that Killgrave sexually enslaved her without providing additional detail. (Sexual enslavement was the terminology used in Kmecha7's previous 2 edits, which I changed for precisely this reason.)--Galliaz 02:25, 17 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'd have to agree with Galliaz, whose addition of a few words makes the meaning clearer and more precise. -- Tenebrae 05:05, 17 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Arguably, being forced to beg for sex and then being denied is a form of sexual, and psychological assault in itself. Hermiod 20:19, 22 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
No argument necessary, Hermiod: as my comment shows, I think it's clear that Killgrave's mis-treatment of JJ was indeed a form of psycho-sexual assault. My only problem was with the use of the term sexual enslavement to describe it without the provision of additional detail.--Galliaz 20:45, 22 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

why did you deleate the part about jessica masturbating to the human torch i think that would be kind of important making it show that she has liked super heros for a while

Too embarrassed to sign your post?  :-) --Tenebrae 19:59, 25 April 2006

Powers[edit]

Does Jessica still have her powers? It never mentions whether or not she has them, or simply never uses them.

She's got them and (for the most part) doesn't use them, which is why she's required to register under the Superhero Registration Act along with her husband. (New Avengers #22) --Galliaz 15:36, 29 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Cage movie info[edit]

I deleted this addition:

Jessica Jones's character will be one of the main characters in the upcoming Luke Cage movie starring Tyrese Gibson. The role will be played by K.D. Aubert. Since the actress is African-American and Jessica Jones is white it's not certain how fans of Jessica will react to this change.

The info didn't seem appropriate here, though it might be relevant to an entry on Luke Cage or the individual actors involved. If others think the info is relevant, I have no opposition to its inclusion, though something along these lines seems more appropriate to me:

K.D. Aubert is slated to play Jessica Jones in a Luke Cage film which is currently in production. --Galliaz 21:33, 29 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I concur with all your points, since the "it's not certain" material is speculation and thus disallowed. Also, however, the phrase "currently in production" is disallowed since it's a temporal reference and Wiki requires text to be timeless (as any print encyclopedia is). The way to phrase it, for whoever has the information (with citation) is something like, "Such-and-such studio announced onm [date] that it was producing a Luke Cage film starring John Doe and Jane Doe for a scheduled [month/year] release." -- Tenebrae 15:30, 31 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

References[edit]

Tenebrae, I don't see why you've added this tag, so clarification might be necessary. It seems to me that the article does indeed cite its sources of information. The lion's share of information here is (necessarily) derived from the comics themselves (Alias, The Pulse, Young Avengers, and New Avengers), to which (I think) the entry does refer. Will individual issue numbers have to be appended? --Galliaz 15:43, 31 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry to be vauge; I thought it self-evident that there are neither footnotes nor a "References" section. Please go to, say, Fantastic_four#References or even the minor Ultra-Man for examples, and the Wiki policy/guideline page at WP:CITE. Thanks for asking! --Tenebrae 16:54, 31 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the clarification, T. I'll work on putting together a bibliography and referneces section. --Galliaz 17:29, 31 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Publication History Typing Error[edit]

It seems that there's a chunk of text missing in the publication history. I've checked back to the earliest version of the section, and it's been present throughout. It's the sentence "He had earlier stated Previously, in the Bendis commented [...]". Presumably, there's no missing information here, and it merely needs tidying up, but I thought I'd check first. Origin (editing thought?)[edit]

"Introduced as a retcon character"- aside from the slightly fractured-feeling phrasing (retcon having more the feeling of a noun than an adjective)... hrm. Linking may be sufficient (Wikipedia:Explain jargon implies so) though sometimes it's good to find phrasing that avoids it instead. Schissel | Sound the Note! 14:55, 1 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject Comics B-Class Assesment required[edit]

Character appearance lists[edit]

I've now reverted back in a character appearance list that has been removed twice. The last time it was reverted out, it was with the explanation that 'we don't do them'. I've seen them a number of times, and am unsure where this new protocol came into existence. I see 'collected works' sections in several Good Articles, and I am wondering why this would present an overwhelming problem. Myself, I hadn't heard of her until reading an issue of What If? several years ago. I wouldn't have known where else to find stories about her character were it not for this article. Perhaps we could discuss this further? - Jack Sebastian (talk) 03:09, 6 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

See WP:CMOS#LSECTION
What is being preserved here isn't a "Collected works" section - and to be honest some of the Collected works sections really push the definition to include trades that reprint multiple issues but only include 1 or 2 issues of the series the article focuses on.
- J Greb (talk) 04:22, 6 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Err, isn't the linked bit something you worked out yourself a little over a month ago? I think for me, the issue is one of usefulness. AS previously mentioned, knowing where else the character has appeared can only be beneficial to the reader, right? I get what you are saying: the list shouldn't be all-encompassing, noting every appearance evar of the character, but where a character keeps turning up and has significant storylines. Perhaps the alternative would be an external link to a reliable site that accomplishes the same thing.
Okay, the baby is done feeding and I am off to bed. :) - Jack Sebastian (talk) 05:02, 6 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Re-doing the wheel since that section came out of discussion and general consensus over a year ago (check the dif date again):
Yes, a list of appearances can be useful. But...
  1. They rely on either WP:OR or WP:POV to be constructed.
  2. If POV - editorial decision about what is an "important", "proper", or "significant" appearance - is removed they broach WP:NOTDIRECTORY and WP:INDISCRIMINATE.
With Marvel characters, most wind up with an EL to Marvel Database which does a very good job of providing full lists. That type of EL tends to be acceptable since the Wikia is stable and covers the aspects Wikipedia won't due to most of the aspects of WP:NOT.
I don't think it would be a bad idea to note that in the MoS section - it would be the easier alternative. Otherwise the heavy lifting would need to be done to find reliable 3rd party sources to construct a prose "Critical assessment/review" of the character's development and use. That would proved something more useful to an encyclopedic article that a simple list, point out the stories/issues/series, and provide the sources Wikipedia needs to show that it isn't just "our opinion".
- J Greb (talk) 06:37, 6 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I can see how listing every single appearance of a character - especially a relatively minor character like Jones - can be WP:UNDUE, but i am not seeing the implication of either OR or POV in creation. Noting/identifying a character passing by, unidentified, in the background would require synthesis; we'd need a reviewer (and not the Marvel database, which can be added to by anyone and therefore cannot be considered a solid reference - but more on that in a moment). Categorizing these appearances as important or significant would also be a personal opinion, and not allowed.
What I am talking about is a simple noting of, say, first appearance and collected works. Maybe even noting those stories revolving around her. I am not in favor of noting every, single appearance.
When a WP editor reads a primary source (like a comic book), and draws the conclusion that this or that event in the c'book is a first of some sort, this is, by definition WP:OR. WP policy and guidelines require a published source, a news article or review, in a reputable source like Variety, the NY or LA Times, etc., stating the editor-observed first. Otherwise, this article becomes a personal blog of the editors, and not an encyclopedic article. Le Prof Leprof 7272 (talk) 09:59, 29 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Now, regarding the Marvel database, I was wondering if its reliability has ever been questioned before at RSN. Do you know? I don't want to hang my hat on allowing quotes and info from it, only to discover that its disallowed as a source. - Jack Sebastian (talk) 03:06, 7 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I asked over at RSN], and it seems like the Marvel Database is an unusable source for material in comic book articles. - Jack Sebastian (talk) 22:44, 7 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

"Comics Awareness"[edit]

Is anyone going to mention that she knows that she is a comic-book character? It was a running theme in Alias, obvious in such scenes as her frank talk with the "mutant" girl who had gone missing: Jess tells the girl that both she and her town will fade away to nothingness, once Jessica leaves. This delusion, power or residual post-hypnotic belief stemming from mind-control and abuse, or what ever it is becomes a major plot point in the final story arc (of Alias) when she faces off against the Purple Man. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.235.31.212 (talk) 21:40, 14 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

People come not because of proven quality, but because WP is a known source, and it appears prominently in Google search results. But the fact that the article is highly viewed makes clear our responsibility, for this article, and in general, to do things correctly, and make and keep the article encyclopedic. Killing Purple Man[edit]

Section Early years says

Killgrave, still obsessed with Jones, escapes from high-security incarceration, but with the mental defences Grey gave her, Jones breaks his control and subsequently beats him to death.

But Purple Man § Fictional character biography doesn't even mention this. It describes that encounter thus:

Later, the Purple Man escapes again and tries controlling Jessica to kill the Avengers, but she is able to resist and knocks him out. Daredevil later has the Purple Man imprisoned in the Raft, a jail designed for super-powered criminals.

I know that Marvelverse characters keep dying and getting retro-revived, but this should at least be mentioned here. Thnidu (talk) 23:11, 22 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

She never beat him to death she just knocked him out.--CyberGhostface (talk) 13:43, 27 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned references in Jessica Jones[edit]

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Jessica Jones's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Reference named "btva":

I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT 18:26, 19 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
