Origin[edit]

Kingarthur581, can you show where does it say that Jhalmuri originated in any part of India? There is nothing mentioned about its origin in your added source. That's why I added both Bangladesh and India as the origin as the sources call it a Bengali snack which is associated with both Bangladesh and West Bengal. If you persist on solely listing India as a place or origin, that would be source misrepresentation and a blatant POV. Za-ari-masen (talk) 11:08, 5 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Za-ari-masen, I've added another citation in the origin section in the infobox from a more neutral source for your reference And beside I am not persisting on solely listing India as a place of origin, because I added citations as a proof. And before I edited this section,only Bangladesh was listed as the place of origin with this source as reference which clearly does not clarify the origin of Jhalmuri in Bangladesh. And also my source (which you are claiming does not mention about origin of Jhalmuri) is clearly describes how famous Jhalmuri of Calcutta came into existence. So I am clearly not committing a misrepresentation of source or a blatant POV.

Kingarthur581, It is still source misrepresentation because none of your sources confirm the origin of the dish and yet your are adding India as the place of origin. Jhalmuri is popular in Kolkata and so is in Dhaka, Chittagong and other cities of Bangladesh. There are in fact sources that call it a "Bangladeshi snack". Kolkata is fairly a modern city developed by the British while Jhalmuri is being eaten even before Kolkata's emergence. The source you mentioned only describes how Jhalmuri became popular in Kolkata, not its origin. Since the dish is claimed by both, I earlier added both Bangladesh and India as the place of origin. Now I'm restoring the version. Don't misrepresent the sources further or I will have to report you, you have been doing the same thing on Mutton Curry as well. Za-ari-masen, my source clearly confirms the origin and yet you are continuously removing my citation link. You can't call this exclusively a Bangladeshi snack without real proof of its origin and I've already presented mine so I have placed India before Bangladesh in origin section o infobox, you can't warn me to report while you are violeting WP:GUIDELINE yourself and clearly engaging in a Edit war and a blatant POV. As I said, there is nothing in your source about the origin of Jhalmuri, it just discusses how Jhalmuri became popular in Kolkata. Prove me wrong by providing a relevant quote from the source. Claiming that something is supported by a source but not present in the source is source misrepresentation. My edits are perfectly consistent with WP:NPOV as I added both Bangladesh and India as the place of origin and called it a Bengali snack. Continuing your disruptive behavior will eventually get you blocked. Parotting my words or leaving retaliatory notices won't help you either. Za-ari-masen (talk) 10:42, 6 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

You are just misinterpreting things one after another. The source is clearly talking about the history of popularity of Jhalmuri in Kolkata, not its origin. The popularity grew when Biharis commercialized the snack in that city. And your quote itself says "Biharis were not the first to invent dhal muri, or to bring it to Kolkata. Jhal muri existed in different forms and was eaten regularly". Perhaps, you can create an article on Kolkata's Jhalmuri or something in that line if you have enough content, only then your claim of Jhalmuri's origin in Kolkata will have some meat. At present, it's just misrepresentation of sources. I suggest keeping "place of origin" (country) parameter empty to keep the article free from misrepresentation. And WP:THREAT refers to legal threats in real life, not the suggestions about reporting to the admins. I don't remember threatening you with any legal action. Keep in mind that making false allegations against editors or WP:Casting aspersions is blatant violation of WP:NPA. Za-ari-masen (talk) 10:47, 7 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Za-ari-masen, you are clearly distorting my statement again here, because at the end of the statement it also says “Bihari migrants only made it common as a street snack. The street recipe was a combination of the Bengali and Bihari palette and eventually became Kolkata’s own.”, it clearly means that though similar dishes like Jhalmuri existed in Bengal they weren't designated as Jhalmuri, ethnic biharis of Kolkata made today's street snack version of Jhalmuri that we all know about. Nobody can exactly trace real origin of Jhalmuri but it is clear where it got its modern form and name from. So I suggest for the sake of neutrality we just leave the article as it is now and put an end to our arguments here. And from the past conversation it is very clear who is violating WP:NPA.
