Confirm Death Date[edit]

Maybe your book is simply a later printing of an earlier edition mentioned on the his Wikipedia page. --LaVue (talk) 07:16, 8 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I too have a book from 1913 and it is signed

"Dedication I leave these volumes (my love) to my children" Followed by his signature.

Agree, they must have the date of death wrong. In fact, the 9 volume edition of the History of the World is actually 10 volumes. When the First World War broke out, he decided to write a 10 edition to be included with the 9 volume set. It is titled "The Great War". I have all 10 volumes, handed down to me a long time ago. Obviously, how could he have written it if he died 14 years earlier?

Questions on date of Death/History of the United States[edit]

I too have a set of "History of the United States." However; it is a 12 volume set dated 1918, not a 10 volume set dated in 1905 as the Wikipedia article mentions. It has the same dedication as above of "Dedication I leave these volumes to (my love) my children" followed by his signature. Were these final 2 volumes added after his death by another writer as an amendment or updated history? I know I'm pretty late but I found out that most of the volumes of Ridpath's cyclopedia of universal history sets were written by other authors, with them simply retaining the writing style that Ridpath used. (for anyone wondering I found this out in the introduction to the fifth volume in my nine volume set, where a professor specifically states that other authors have finished the Rippath's wprk while keeping his general style).
