The London Gazette for 2 April 1991 lists Jones as receiving OStJ from the queen.[1] It lists him as:
- John Elfed Jones CBE DL CEng FIEE FRSA CBIM
I think these indicate:
- CBE - Commander of the Order of the British Empire
- DL - Deputy lieutenant (of Glamorgan)
- CEng - Chartered Engineer (UK)
- FIEE - Fellow of the Institution of Electrical Engineers, this indicates that he was a professional electrical or electronics engineer, which fits with his jobs at the North Wales Power Company and at Anglesey Aluminium.
- FRSA - Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, an award to those who have 'made significant contributions relating to the Arts, Manufacture and Commerce'.
- CBIM - this probably means Companion of the British Institute of Management.[2]
Is this London Gazette source sufficient for us to add these postnominals, and OStJ? It would be good to get more details. CEng and FIEE indicate that he had an engineering education, most likely a degree in electrical engineering. It would be good to confirm this and identify the college or university. - I have found his entry in Who's Who, which confirms most of this, and gives many more details, including study at Heriot-Watt College. I will expand the article based on this, unless someone else does so. Verbcatcher (talk) 01:01, 11 February 2020 (UTC)
