What Merit for Encyclopedia Entry ?[edit]

I would suggest that this article does not meet the Wikipedian standards for an encyclopedia entry; but, as the policy says, "What exactly qualifies as encyclopedic is debatable, though, so it's best to err on the side of caution and not delete or nominate for deletion too hastily." I believe that while this person is not "famous," by Wikipedia guidelines, he is notable, and therefore I vote that this page should stay. 24.31.114.157

In addition to his role as professor, his publications and clerkship at the US Supreme Court, give him a notability most other professors lack. Alansohn 15:40, 24 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I wrote the article (thanks to whoever put in John's degrees - I figured people could look on his website for that) and I agree with both of the writers above. John is clearly not famous (he would not want to be) but he is notable even within academia. He is the prominent professor of patent law at one of the top 3 law schools for patent attorneys in the country. His book is used at all the better law schools. He teaches patent law at the Max Plank Institute in Germany in the Summer so he is internationally recognized as well. I could go on and on. Perhaps some of this should be mentioned in the article but John would get upset if the article started to sound like an ad for his book or for his professional services (which it is not). Thanks for erring on this side of caution and, as you can see above, I am not the only person who thinks John warrants a article -- albeit a small one, at the moment.

I would agree that he's notable under wikipedia standards. Especially with the group of Supreme Court Law Clerks that's forming - he's notable for his clerkships, his academic writing, and his distinguished teaching position.
