Untitled[edit]

I am researching the genealogy of a family of architects named Bowes, who lived in Ottawa, Ontario between the approximate years 1850-1895 : John Bowes (born 1820, in Kilkenny County Ireland) resided first in Kingston, and later worked as Superintending Architect of the Ottawa Parliament Buildings ( ie. the Library). He was employed by the Department of Public Works for 25 years; he died 1894 in Ottawa. I have a copy of his Obituary, indicating that one of his daughters had married Ottawa Police Magistrate Martin O'Gara. His brother Patrick Bowes (born, 1830, in Kingston, died 1908, St. Albert, Alberta) was an Oblate priest architect. His son, James R. Bowes, ( born 1852, died 1892) was the architect of St. Brigid's RC. Church, Lowertown Ottawa, which is presently being threatened with closure. James died childless in a fire in California in 1892, leaving behind a widow who probably remarried and moved to the U.S. ( my guess).

I am currently trying to determine if John George Bowes, Mayor of Toronto, and John Bowes, architect in Ottawa, were related. Any information would be appreciated.
