Nonstandard reference placement?[edit]

Almost all of our articles place references at the end of the relative sentence. Someone has moved some of the references in this article into the middle of sentences. Some academic journals have their own style guides, that request this style of reference placement. But, even in the academic world, it is a minority style.

Personally I find this style of reference placement jarring to read.

I resisted changing the reference placement to an easier to read style following the principle of not cluttering up the contribution history with merely cosmetic changes. But I'd welcome other's opinions on making an exception to that principle here. Geo Swan (talk) 17:04, 3 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Please don't unnecessarily rewrite references in your favorite style...[edit]

Some of the references in this article have been unnecessarily rewritten. Our style guides don't state whether contributors should use the one field per line when using {{cite}} templates, or whether we should place the entire template on a single line. Personally, I prefer the former, but I don't rewrite templates in my preferred style, because rewriting metadata for esthetic reasons makes for misleading diffs, that appear to show massive changes when there has been little to no change to the article's actual content.

I request those who favor other styles show the same courtesy, and refrain from rewriting references I left in their favorite style.

I restored some references to their original style. Geo Swan (talk) 17:04, 3 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Removing tendentious references to Kiriakou's acknowledgement that he was not a first-hand witness to waterboarding[edit]

There are a few places in this article that state Kiriakou "acknowledged that he was not present during Abu Zubaydah's interrogations", and that he was "only to later acknowledge he had no first hand [sic] knowledge" of waterboarding.

This language leaves the impression that Kiriakou initially stated or suggested that he was present during the waterboarding of Abu Zubaydah. However, in his very first interview with ABC News, he explicitly states that he moved on to another job and that others were sent in to use "enhanced techniques":

JOHN:
We had a group of folks-- at the agency who were
trained in-- what had been reported in the press,
we called enhanced techniques. I came back to
the-- to the United States to headquarters to
move onto a different job. But we had these
trained interrogators who were sent to his
location-- to use the enhanced techniques as
necessary to get him to open up-- and to report
some threat information.

Lack of John's Work Detailing Prison Abuses?[edit]

I learned of John Kiriakou by accident through reading about federal prison conditions. I was surprised to find that nothing about his troubles in prison, nor his letters about them are recorded here. While I don't have enough information to mark a new section, nor am I sure it's appropriate, I can point to this letter written February 2014 about correctional officers in his prison attempting to censor him.

I'll add more if/when I find it - but I feel like this is important. Navarr (talk) 00:19, 7 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Unsure what you want[edit]

Today, 28march2015, am adding information regarding Silenced 2014 documentary to the wiki pages of those featured in the film, Thomas Andrews Drake, John Kiriakou, and Jesselyn Radack.

Gave external links of relevant IMDB and YOUTUBE media.

You sent me a wiki message which told me I am in an "edit war", and did not explain why. You listed a difference between revisions that did not give examples of MY additions or edits, but instead showed your differences between edit war & revision notes. wiki talk. wiki users Cwobeel and Wuerzele https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:74.84.81.66&oldid=653090839&diff=cur. Retrieved 28 March 2015. {{cite web}}: Missing or empty |title= (help)

Am not sure what you want? Is this "war" regarding Tom Cotton's website or the others listed above?

What would you like me to do?

Further, I do have a Wiki account (mtmsquared) but since I travel often for work (military physician and consultant) I'd rather not have hundreds of different IP addresses associated with my account, since many of them are public and used by many other wikiusers. (I don't want to be attached to possible problems caused by othrs using same IP).

wILL be online for the next hour or so. Please sent a note detailing clear instructions of what it is you all want.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.84.81.66 (talkcontribs) — Preceding undated comment added 23:59, 28 March 2015‎

moved above message, received (unsigned )from IP address on my talk page to this page, since it involves article discussion.--Wuerzele (talk) 00:16, 29 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
74.84.81.66 , I noticed that you did not wait for my response, before editing on the article page again, ie were not interested in discussing, violating WP:BRD, which as alleged registered user mtmsquared you should be familiar with.
you reintroduced now for the third time, your version, ignoring my suggestions and edits, (which do clearly show "what I want", as opposed to your imo sheepish sounding section title). so you've violated WP:3RR. I will give you one last chance of figuring this out, since you pleaded special circumstances. Please revert your last edit to my version and lets work word for word from there on this discussion page, here. If you don't revert yourself within the next 24 h I will report you for editwarring. Thanks.--Wuerzele (talk) 00:43, 29 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Insert Loud and Clear ref.?[edit]

His bio should probably reflect that he co-hosts this program somewhere, right? Maybe in "related media works"? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.33.2.140 (talk) 19:00, 22 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Russia[edit]

In light of the fact that Kiriakou works for a Russian state-owned media enterprise and has been referred to in print as a propagandist for the Kremlin, why is Russia not mentioned in the current version of this article? 173.88.246.138 (talk) 02:56, 8 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

"Zubaydah" and "Zubaida" are being used[edit]

Which should be used?

Granted if a quote contains the other spelling, then the name should appear the way the source spells it, followed by [sic]. 2600:8806:1203:BC00:242D:A962:5904:AA08 (talk) 21:44, 18 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
