Contested deletion[edit]

This article should not be speedily deleted for lack of asserted importance because...

Reading wp:artist and wp:anybio I believe, regardless of the subject's own input to the article that notability has been shown. References from television stations, local press and the BBC, significant public works on major liners, outside football grounds and at Wimbledon tennis courts added to those in UK town centre's make McKenna notable as a sculptor. Additionally this is not a self-created article. The original was created to demonstate his notability as a sculptor and creator of statues of world renowned footballers.--Egghead06 (talk) 05:08, 26 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The article serves only as an advert. Overkill of images, poetry of section titles like "On the Shoulders of Giants"... absolute nonsense. Does Elvis Presley have every album pictured, or poetic section titles? No. McKenna is obviously responsible for some interesting work, but that doesn't mean he's notable for Wikipedia. The reliable sources, like STV and BBC, do not bolster McKenna's notability. One fleeting namecheck in one sentence means nothing. Finally, "User:Johnsculp" has been heavily involved in the editing of this self-promotional article, and is responsible for uploading pictures. I need say no more. I created this article due to my interest in statues of British footballers (of which there are many). The article was quite small. Mr McKenna got hold of it and added images and details of his work without much knowledge of Wiki requirements. Nearly all of his input has now gone. I still maintain he is a significant and notable sculptor and provided sources for his work both in the UK and on ocean liners. Deletion is a sledgehammer to crack a nut. A clean-up and some references - much more appropriate. I need say no more. --Egghead06 (talk) 07:25, 27 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
FWIW The article of Barbara Hepworth has a gallery of her works and lists all her works - guess she didn't add these herself...!!!.....--Egghead06 (talk) 07:42, 27 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
That article is garbage and almost 50% supported by her own cites. Horrible, horrible stuff, just like this one, but I'm not interested in that. As a human being with natural bias and subjective opinions, I didn't appreciate McKenna promoting himself on articles that were of interest to me. Anyway, I suppose it's a bit better now, even if lacking in real cites. Just another guy in a suit (talk) 22:14, 27 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
A Colossal figure is not one that is er....a bit big. It is a term in sculpture for a very large statue. I'll ignore the tag for 'unreliable cites'. They have become fairly meaningless on Wiki as so many articles are littered with them at the top and mostly people don't care. Maybe another approach would have been to comment on your dislike of McKenna self-promoting and to have sourced some better refs....just a thought!--Egghead06 (talk) 05:11, 28 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
No, I wasn't familiar with "colossal" as a sculpture term. I've made it clear that I'm not editing this article because I'm a sculpture enthusiast, and anyway, I don't feel the least bit guilty of mistaking that term for hyperbole on this article, for crying out loud, especially when it wasn't linked to anything. Look at this darn thing as of 26 June. You're entitled to your opinion about the tag; to me it lets people know that this man has had no significant third party coverage from reliable sources. As for sourcing better refs, I have no interest in doing so. Neither did you until I pointed out what a disgrace the article was, so feel free to step down from your high horse. I also have little knowledge of sculpture and only created the article as McKenna has worked on footballing statues (see reliable references!). As for the article being a disgrace, well it's still here and has survived your attempt at Speedy Deletion which brought be back to this article . Think your comment 'As for sourcing better refs, I have no interest in doing so' tells me all I need to know. Thanks for your valued input.--Egghead06 (talk) 07:07, 28 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The article had evolved into an advertisement by the time of your last edit in February, so again, why so high on horse? The article was a disgrace: I admit that the speedy was hasty and actually tried to make the article suitable for Wikipedia. Let's be honest, BBC and STV are reliable sources; the the likes of ayrshirearts and avonteur aren't, and you know this. Just another guy in a suit (talk) 07:30, 28 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
