Creepy Moment[edit]

Motson's reading of the names of the 'historic' English penalty missers as the final whistle approached in the England Portugal 2006 World Cup quarter final extra time was the creepiest touch in a long career. John Motson didn't repeat that quote in December, it was Ian Darke for Sky Sports.

Voice commentry for footy games?[edit]

Early years - in London?[edit]

I don't get this, about him being born in Salford. I met Motty in the mid-90s in a wine bar off Carnaby St., London. We struck up a conversation when I told him one of my relatives was Ronny Radford. He asked me where I lived, and he was amazed when I told him Hither Green, London, SE13. He said he was born in Slaithwaite Road, SE13, and later attended Ennersdale Road Primary school (now closed). He expressed some sadness that the school had not invited him to visit after he became famous, as other places had. Both SE13 locations are within a few minutes walk of where I now live. This kind of coincidence is not the sort of thing I'm likely to forget, but I've not seen these details confirmed anywhere else. Rikstar (talk) 06:33, 28 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Contradiction - place of birth[edit]

'Vandalisim' in article![edit]

Sources/citations are linked to (mentioned on this 'talk' page also) that show Motson was born in Manchester, yet someone is insistent on changing it to 'Salford'- *with no citations*. 70.238.222.171 (talk) 10:18, 22 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Unexplained changes[edit]

I have reverted the changes made today as they do not appear to be sourced and does remove info in the article without valid reasons given. I'm open to hearing why but without sourcing these changes probably shouldn't be made. Hell in a Bucket (talk) 16:30, 2 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The coat[edit]

I am amazed that this article does not seem to mention the sheepskin coat. It must be as well-known as its wearer!

There is also a reference to it: i.e. The Man Behind the Sheepskin near the end of the article and there are two pictures of Motson here, both showing him in said coat.

I think it should be mentioned.
