Are they serious about who he as romantically linked to? Quite a diverse crowd. 01:35, 25 December 2007 (UTC)

He was on episode 1114 from 9/23/13 of the podcast Never Not Funny with Jimmy Pardo and he said his birthday was August 26, and he is 30. Could anyone reference this and add it? I don't know how to reference podcasts. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.91.129.165 (talk) 06:13, 25 September 2012 (UTC)

Heterosexual

The comedy special "New in Town" suffices as a source for Mulaney to discuss his sexuality. In it, he explains how he "was supposed to be gay" for laughs (mannerisms, appearance) but is not. He also discusses his relationship with a girlfriend. These two factors add up to a heterosexual orientation, according to my notes. IP editors have been by to delete it, because I suppose they do not like celebrities who come out of the heterosexual closet? I don't really know. It is properly sourced and it is factual and so it stays in, thanks. Elizium23 (talk) 10:58, 2 March 2020 (UTC)

It's quite obvious that he is heterosexual (though technically not everything in his specials is necessarily the truth, could just be part of a joke he constructed). I'm wondering whether his heterosexual orientation needs to be mentioned explicitly at all in this article (especially using the phrase "revealed that he is heterosexual"), given that in the same section his marriage to a woman is stated and reliably sourced. Unless there is some sort of new development I'm not aware of regarding explicitly re-stating heterosexuality in the personal life section, I would say his marriage should be enough and is all that needs to be mentioned. Felida97 (talk) 12:28, 2 March 2020 (UTC)
Does it need to be mentioned when someone comes out as homosexual, or has a same-sex relationship? Do we need to pepper their BLP with fawning congratulations or tag them with numerous categories including activism? I see nothing at all wrong with describing a straight person's sexuality in an article where he's been very up-front and personal about it in a popular comedy show. Elizium23 (talk) 12:43, 2 March 2020 (UTC)
Wikipedia is not an appropriate forum for whatever form of activism you are trying to do right now. If you believe that there are problematic aspects of articles for gay people on Wikipedia, I strongly encourage you to go edit those articles or start discussions on why they are problematic. It's important for those problems to be resolved. But editing an unrelated article is not productive and could easily be seen as vandalism. Cerebral726 (talk) 14:21, 2 March 2020 (UTC)
would just like to note the fact that plenty of pansexual and bisexual people can be in a marriage to someone of a different gender! not being homosexual does not immediately equal straight! irregardless of the fact that "come out of the heterosexual closet" is a ridiculous phrase, let's not continue spreading outdated myths about sexuality, thanks. 108.56.130.32 (talk) 18:56, 3 March 2020 (UTC)
Or Bi-sexual or his is taking the piss. If he "come out" as heterosexual and makes an issue of it (and the media join in) we can say he is (for example) "a self confessed heterosexual".Slatersteven (talk) 14:11, 4 March 2020 (UTC)

Semi-protected edit request on 26 January 2021

Cite Mulaney's February SNL monologue (or cite the whole episode) in which he made the Caesar joke in the sentence in which the joke is explained. In addition, keep the following sentence's citation of the article detailing the Secret Service investigation. Tkamgsaw (talk) 01:45, 26 January 2021 (UTC)

Not done If I'm understanding you correctly, what you're referencing is already included in the article. AllegedlyHuman (talk) 01:53, 26 January 2021 (UTC)
We don't need that citation; the Vulture one is good enough.  Ganbaruby! (Say hi!) 07:22, 26 January 2021 (UTC)

Partner parameter

@CaffeinAddict: Munn's pregnancy doesn't make the relationship significant enough for the partner parameter. Template:Infobox person says the parameter is for the "unmarried long-term partner". The sources only confirm they have been dating for four months. The page says further that partner "means unmarried life partners in a domestic partnership". I'm not sure if just living together would be enough to qualify if it's only been for a short amount of time (I don't think it should be), but the sources in the article don't say they're living together anyway. Abbyjjjj96 (talk) 06:25, 12 September 2021 (UTC)

This would suggest it’s best kept in the body of personal life subsection but not in the infobox… until such a time it’s revealed the actual nature of their relationship? CaffeinAddict (talk) 18:04, 12 September 2021 (UTC)
I would say the pregnancy makes their relationship notable enough to be included in the main body of the article. Abbyjjjj96 (talk) 20:12, 12 September 2021 (UTC)

Chappelle incident

@Abbyjjjj96 and CaffeinAddict: I believe the article should mention the recent criticism Mulaney received for having Dave Chappelle tell perceived transphobic jokes as a secret guest at his stand up tour. The event has multiple reliable sources (Variety BuzzfeedNews etc) and the topic is specifically about criticism directed towards Mulaney. I propose the text should read " In May 2022, during his From Scratch tour, Mulaney was criticized for inviting Chappelle to open his show. Chappelle told several jokes that were described by members of the audience as transphobic and homophobic."--Cerebral726 (talk) 12:54, 25 May 2022 (UTC)

This has been covered in multiple reliable sources, but has not created big splashes, so I think one or two short sentences in a relatively long bio would be appropriate at this juncture. Wording looks okay. I don't think your ping worked: you have to add a new comment if you forget to link usernames or sign the message (see PINGFIX), so I'll re-ping @Abbyjjjj96 and CaffeinAddict. Politrukki (talk) 13:51, 25 May 2022 (UTC)
Thanks for pinging them. I didn't realize it didn't work retroactively, good to know! --Cerebral726 (talk) 13:57, 25 May 2022 (UTC)
But Mulaney did not say these jokes. CaffeinAddict (talk) 00:35, 26 May 2022 (UTC)
I haven't gotten the sense he had much of a say in what went on. CreecregofLife (talk) 02:21, 26 May 2022 (UTC)
Everyone needs to read WP:UNDUE, WP:SYNTHESIZE etc. CaffeinAddict (talk) 03:46, 26 May 2022 (UTC)
This too CreecregofLife (talk) 05:07, 26 May 2022 (UTC)
The proposed addition doesn't say Mulaney said the jokes nor speculate on how much say he had in the set. It mentions that he received significant pushback and criticism (to the point where several articles were written about it) as a result of the decision to invite Chappelle to perform at his show. There is no WP:SYNTH going on, and I hardly think 2 sentences constitutes UNDUE prominence. --Cerebral726 (talk) 12:18, 26 May 2022 (UTC)

Marriage to Olivia Munn?

Is there some reason this isn't here? 76.146.202.129 (talk) 15:50, 19 February 2023 (UTC)

There is a good reason for this, which is that they are not married. Hope this clears things up. 90.255.51.198 (talk) 01:37, 23 February 2023 (UTC)
