GA nomination[edit]

The article is not quite ready yet to be nominated for GA. There is a lot of material that needs citing, and the article could do with a copy-edit to ensure a better reading flow (there are a number of very short paragraphs). It would be a quick fail as it stands. It might be better to withdraw the nomination, work on improving the article, and then nominating again when the work has been done. This article needs a lot of work to reach good article status. There are unsourced paragraphs. The references are poorly formatted (many are missing access dates, book references are missing page numbers). I don't see the Allmusic 'influenced by' as sufficient documentation for a good article, I would much rather see a reference that the artist directly states that they were influenced by JPJ. There are numerous dead links in the article, see here. The lead section does not summarize the article, it spends too much space listing instruments and those influenced by him. Too much emphasis is given to a rumor, "Royal Orleans". The whole article can use copy editting. Sorry if I'm being harsh but this nomination was a bit premature. JPJ is a major figure in rock history, I certainly hope that one day the article will be promoted but right now I am failing this nomination. J04n(talk page) 16:12, 11 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Bass Pedals[edit]

I would say no. It's not something he's well known for playing. From Template:Infobox_musical_artist#instrument: "Instruments listed in the infobox should be limited to only those that the artist is primarily known for using. The instruments infobox parameter is not intended as a WP:COATRACK for every instrument the subject has ever used." Even Geddy Lee doesn't have them listed in the infobox. I'm not a major Led Zeppelin fan, but I initially knew him as the keyboardist of the band who handles the bass guitar parts with bass pedals. He, Geddy Lee, and Mike Rutherford are some of the some of the most notable bass pedal players in the music industry, in my opinion. Dobbyelf62 (talk) 01:42, 12 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Instruments and other "gear"[edit]

This article has long lists of equipment used by the subject with makes and models included. I can see including the specifics of several of his most frequently used or unusual instruments, but the rest of that is excessive and can be seen as promoting products. The emphasis in the article should be on the musician and how he plays the instruments, not on brand names. Contributions[edit]

I noticed that the old article claimed JPJ played keyboards on "many" Roy Harper albums. After some research, this is false. The only contribution from JPJ to Roy Harper was playing bass on the track HQ. However, JPJ's contributions are more extensive than what the current article mentions. I'd love to see more research done in this area, for he is a very underrated and underappreciated musician.

Keyboards[edit]

JPJ extensively played keyboards live and in the studio with Led Zeppelin and in his solo work - "keyboards" should definitely be listed as his second instrument in the infobox.

His keyboard playing is a very important aspect of Zeppelin and their music, but as the lead states, he's best known as a bassist, therefore making keyboards secondary and according to the infobox's documentation, secondary instruments are to be addressed in the article body. - FlightTime (open channel) 02:31, 31 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I think keyboards should go in. In Through The Out Door is dominated by them, and by the late 70s he seemed to be playing half the set behind them. This source includes clavinet on "Trampled Underfoot", Mellotron on "Kashmir" and electric piano on "No Quarter". More importantly, the lead says he's a multi-instrumentalist, so that kind of implies putting more than one there, doesn't it? Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 21:26, 5 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
