Citations needed?[edit]

The demand for citations for things like school attended and association memberships is pedantry. It is perfectly logical that such things are well known by fans, local people, or those with an active interest in the subject, without there being a published source stating categorically where someone went to school. Why would a leading journal or newspaper feel the need to add "By the way, he went to school at.."? Wikipedia guidelines cater for this fact, because otherwise the end result would be to remove ALL unsourced information, however true, relevant (or trivial) or useful it may be.
