Filipino ethnicity/nationality[edit]

Quite a few edits have added to the lead that he is (some combo) of Filipino-American, American / Filipino, etc. This has also been added to his nationality in the infobox. As far as the lead, ethnicity is typically not mentioned there per MOS:BLPLEAD: "Ethnicity or sexuality should not generally be emphasized in the opening unless it is relevant to the subject's notability." Short of playing on the Philippines national team, I don't think it belongs in the lead for him. As far as nationality, it's unsourced so far that he is a citizen of the Philippines, so it should not be mentioned in the infobox per WP:BLP.—Bagumba (talk) 23:43, 10 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

FYI Clarkson is ineligible to play for the Philippine National Team due to FIBA rules.[1] - --Wambeter (talk) 02:25, 2 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Lithuanian sources say different, reportedly Philippines coach Tab Baldwin has added Jordan Clarkson on the candidate roster and also that Clarkson holds Filipino citizenship. He's currently in Asia figuring out if he can play for the Philippines as a non-naturalized player.[2] - --8obis (talk) 10:52, 25 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Should be indicated as "Filipino-American", more than 100+ online citations available and Clarkson has already been issued citizenship per the first cite below:

More sample of citations available, I can retrieve more than a hundred more indicating that Clarkson is a "Filipino-American". -3 REF Inserted- Cite error: The <ref> tag has too many names (see the help page). please change Jordan Clarkson's "Nationality" from "American-Filipino" to "Filipino-American" because he had already secured a Philippine passport before 16 years old per FIBA rules. Note: The refs were there but incorrectly formatted, which also messed up your signatures. I fixed both with this edit.—Bagumba (talk) 00:34, 2 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

please change the "Nationality" section from Ämerican-Filipino" to "Filipino-American" because he has a Filipino mother and has a Philippine passport before he turned 16 as per FIBA rules.

Please change

"Clarkson is a dual Philippine and American citizen, the former by virtue of ancestral descent.[1][2][3] His father Mike Clarkson is African-American, while his mother Annette Davis is of half Filipino descent."

"Clarkson is a dual Philippine and American citizen, the former by virtue of ancestral descent.[1][2][3] His father Mike Clarkson is African-American, while his mother Annette Davis is of half Filipino descent.

In recently years, Jordan Clarkson has been actively reconnecting with his Filipino Heritage.[1] [2] He has visited the Philippines three times since May 2015.[3] [4] [5]

Not done: The information (if it should be present at all) shouldn't be in the lead. — JJMC89(T·C) 01:48, 26 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Meh. I'm wary of this story being from a bank, and if they have any ties with Clarkson which would make this a non-independent source. Moreover, NPOV would require integrating this also: "San Antonio is my home. Of course I’ve been to a lot of places, but I kind of kept that small-town mind-set. I feel like I’m never going to change from that", which makes it unclear the extent to which he is "reconnecting". I'd say just leave it out without more context, and additional independent sources.—Bagumba (talk) 04:33, 26 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you guys for the comments. I've taken off the details from the lead and added extra sources showing that he is learning Tagalog. In regards to if this bank has a tie with Clarkson, I think it is an objective interview just like many of those on ESPN. Plus there's no standard to judge if there is a tie between two parties -- as long as there is no commercial endorsement contract involved. Would you say Lakers Nation have no tie with any Lakers player? As a matter of fact they're still cited as a source on Wikipedia. Qishish (talk) 23:03, 27 May 2016 (UTC)Qishish[reply]
Not done: My NPOV concerns are still outstanding. Feel free to establish a consensus for your changes. Cheers.—Bagumba (talk) 19:27, 6 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
