Outdated[edit]

Jordanhill College is a historical institution and what used to remain of it in the form of the Jordanhill campus is now completely absorbed into the main Strathclyde campus as of September 2012. --mishobg12 (talk) 07:16, 16 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Updating article[edit]

The article is called Jordanhill College, but the lead is about the redevelopment of the site (as of 2015) and followed by a history of the estate before the college acquired it. My suggestions are:

  • Proposed lead: Jordanhill College was a higher education college in Jordanhill, Glasgow, Scotland. It opened as a teacher training college in 1921. The college merged with the University of Strathclyde in 1993, becoming its Faculty of Education. In 2012 all educational activities were moved to the John Anderson Campus and the campus closed.
  • The Jordanhill Estate:1546-1913 section is not relevant to the college, it could probably be moved to the Jordanhill article.

Agreed : support these suggested edits so long as there is a link to each of the other pages mentioned e.g in a 'see also' section Kaybeesquared (talk) 18:23, 17 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Kaybeesquared, does your comment relate to the Jordanhill Estate:1546-1913 section? I was tempted to move it to a new article, but it is mainly sourced to http://www.wsmclean.com, which is a personal website. I came to this article having spun out Notre Dame College of Education (Glasgow) from two school articles. TSventon (talk) 20:54, 17 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks yes it could usefully be moved. Though not sure about how you'd get any other supporting citations for a new page.
My interest was post 1913.
I suggest after your new lead, just the two paras starting at 'When his mother died ...' could usefully be retained in the college page ie how the land came to be given for the college, and who owned it before. If the Mitchell Library archive has papers about this and the construction then that could be added too.
Then refer readers to the new page for more of the history of the land and its owners see...
Thank you Kaybeesquared (talk) 15:03, 18 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I have updated the lead and moved the Jordanhill Estate:1546-1913 section to Jordanhill then added a link to a new Jordanhill Estate redirect to Jordanhill. I have not created a new article as I don't have sufficient published reliable sources at present.
I also notice that the history of the college has almost no references. TSventon (talk) 16:13, 18 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks that's great.
Looked at page edit history to see if original editor could be asked to assist in references but mainly by anon editor (s) with IP address only.
There are two sources listed without citation superscripts in the text ( perhaps the source) Kaybeesquared (talk) 21:02, 18 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your input over the last couple of days. It is likely that the general references were the source of the article as at 20 November 2014‎, before the information about the estate was added. Unfortunately neither seems to be available online. TSventon (talk) 21:40, 18 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
