Ineffective[edit]

Jorge Julio made his debut on April the 2nd. He recorded no strikeouts and walked one batter. He made his first save debut on April the 4th. The Marlins had a two run lead, 6-4, going into the 9th inning. He gave up consecutive hits , walked two batters, and allowed three runs. The Marlins lost losing the first chance to go 3-0. Julio was so awful that there are reports that Fredi Gonzalez contemplated whether to pull Julio after allowing the game to be tied and allowing a runner to land on 3rd base. This continues the trend for Julio who has been in decline in output through the years. In fact the diamondbacks were considering releasing Julio before Florida offered prospect Yusimero Petit for Julio. Julio has never been the same since his rookie year where he fell short of Rookie of the Year, however it should be noted that the teams he played for had excellent defense and hitters. Before Julio the Marlins had to decide between the pitchers competing for the closer spot. The job was immediately won by Julio after the trade because Julio was the proven veteran. Should Julio be unexpectedly let go by the Marlins the candidates to replace would be Taylor Tankerlsy, Henry Owens, Matt Lindstrom, Lee Gardner, or a possible trade. Mike Gonzalez had been eyed by the Marlins before he was traded to the Braves. The Braves have now one of the deepest bullpens in the NL. Gonzalez is known as a premier closer/relief pitcher with 2.12 era. However a trade for the closer seems unlikely, but still possible, as the Marlins would have too give too much for Gonzalez. Also the Marlins only want Closers for one year as it saves the most money.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Nick Mourn (talkcontribs)
