Starting This Article[edit]

I hope I've started this article acceptably. There are a couple of things that I don't know how to do, so I'm hoping that someone else will help...

Where I've quoted the German names for blackcurrant and gooseberry, it would be great if we could link to the appropriate articles in the German edition of Wikipedia.
I'm not sure how we handle crosses when we create a "taxobox". Anyone know how we do this?

Erwin Baur/Rudolph Bauer[edit]

I have removed the statement "Jostaberries are the result of a breeding program initiated by Erwin Baur at the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute for Plant Breeding Research in the early 20th century." because I have been unable to confirm this. As far as I can tell, Rudolph Bauer was the person who initiated this breeding program. It was certainly he who carried it through to releasing a number or cultivars in the 1970s. Thorns[edit]

The Jostaberry bush is thornless. A closely related bush called the Worcesterberry has thorns. And there have been some people who have incorrectly called the Worcesterberry a Jostaberry. I have both bushes growing. They are very similar in appearance except for the thorns, and their fruit is very similar. I'm told the Worcesterberry is Ribes divaricatum while the Jostaberry is a hybrid of Ribes divaricatum and Ribes nigrum. Ribes nigrum (blackcurrant) has no thorns. By the way, every year the birds in my neighborhood eat all of the Jostaberries and Worcesterberries before they're fully ripe, but they don't eat the Blackcurrants. Jostaberry banned in USA?[edit]
