Proposed merge of Elgin Theater into Joyce Theater[edit]

To restructure to create a Joyce Theatre Foundation article, and to keep the Elgin Theater article with a focus on the building and pre-Joyce history. Klbrain (talk) 17:55, 19 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The Elgin Theater appears to be the former name of the Joyce Theater building. If the Joyce Theater article is about the building itself, then the articles should be merged, as there are two articles on the same building. If the Joyce Theater article is about the dance company and not the building, this should be clarified. Epicgenius (talk) 21:38, 5 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

It could be argued way, but I think that there has been a sufficient change of use to warrant separate coverage. Some re-framing of each lede to reflect the scope would be fine. So, oppose merge. Klbrain (talk) 09:27, 9 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Klbrain, so you are saying that the Joyce Theater article should be rephrased to emphasize the fact that it's about the theatrical company?
The reason I proposed this merge is that, if both articles are about the building, then the structure has remained the same except for its use. We usually don't have multiple pages about the same building, so if this is the case, then the articles should be merged. However, I do see your point as to why the theatrical company merits its own article. In this case, I could keep the two pages separate, but move the info about the Joyce Theater's building to the Elgin Theater article. – Epicgenius (talk) 15:52, 9 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I don't have strong views here, but the building-related material on the Joyce article is mostly about the renovation that were important to transform the building into a theatre. I hence suggest that would be better kept where it is on the Joyce page. Klbrain (talk) 16:24, 9 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That makes sense. I don't have strong views about this either, I just proposed this because I noticed that the info about the building was spread across two different articles. – Epicgenius (talk) 17:20, 9 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support and rescope. The Elgin article is brief enough that its material can be merged into the Joyce article. That said, the Joyce Theater article does need to be rescoped to focus on the building while the material about the resident company should be moved to a Joyce Theatre Foundation article, as that's the actual name of the company. Which it should be noted has other facilities outside the Joyce Theater building, so the material on those operations are outside the scope of an article on the building specifically. oknazevad (talk) 20:18, 12 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
