Hi, I'm the one who uploaded an image of KR Black RX to put on the main page, which has been removed. My philosophy behind using Black RX was because he's a good middle-line between the original riders and the modern ones and that he would also allow fans of the Saban version who come to this article to instantly confirm that Kamen Rider is indeed the Japanese version of MR. If you'd like a different image and don't wish to post it yourself, I'd be more than happy to look for one, but I think that having some image is better than no image, so, until another one is uploaded by someone, I'd like to replace this one.--Bluebird's Song 13:06, 28 January 2006 (UTC)

Oh no, thank you for uploading the image! However, because Wikipedia is licensed under the GFDL, we can only use copyrighted images under the fair use doctrine of US law. So, in accordarnce with Wikipedia policy on fair use, I thought that the image would be more appropriate at the main article for Kamen Rider BLACK RX, where I moved the image to. Thanks again, and sorry about the misunderstanding.--Sean Black|Talk 21:24, 28 January 2006 (UTC)
Ah, alright, thank you. What sort of image do you think would enhance the franchise page?--Bluebird's Song 21:47, 28 January 2006 (UTC)
Hmm, not sure. I don't know if we can get one that would qualify for fair use on a general page like this one. Maybe a screencap from one of those videos featuring all seven Riders?--Sean Black|Talk 22:33, 28 January 2006 (UTC)
I was wondering: would the image on the Kabuto main page with all the riders ([1]) qualify? I admit that my understanding of the legal restrictions is quite limited. I would consider it a promotional photo that they made available to all, thus legal. Is that thinking flawed?--Bluebird's Song 17:18, 29 January 2006 (UTC)
It could be. How was the picture released? In magazines? Or just over the internett? I imagine we could use it on this page, because of the series overview section- it would be attached to the discussion of the design characteristics of the various Riders.--Sean Black|Talk 22:27, 29 January 2006 (UTC)
Well, as far as I know, this specific picture was only released over the internet. To be honest, my philosophy with this sort of thing has always been "try it and see if anyone objects." But if the image from the official site is a no-go, I believe I could possibly obtain a personal photograph from that event taken by someone who attended, although that might take some time.--Bluebird's Song 01:31, 1 February 2006 (UTC)

Kamen rider and Metal Hero

I don't know how to fit this one in, but I believe most toku fan realized that 3rd generation Kamen Riders and Metal Hero have much more in common than 3rd generation and the 1st generation riders.Suredeath 09:11, 24 December 2006 (UTC)

Skyrider

Sky Rider's series name was simply "Kamen Rider", not "Shin Kamen Rider". Also, he waa never called "Shin Kamen Rider/New Kamen Rider" in that series nor his later appearences. So, what's the point of a article named "New Kamen Rider", if he's more knowed as "Sky Rider"? --Black Condor 12:03, 19 January 2006 (UTC)--Black Condor 01:15, 20 January 2006 (UTC)

The series was just called Kamen Rider, at the time, this is true. But to reduce confusion, everybody calls it New Kamen Rider (Always "New", never "Shin") these days. The character is Skyrider, the series is New Kamen Rider.--Sean|Black 23:44, 19 January 2006 (UTC)
Not everybody, as you claim. But this isn't really a big issue. --Black Condor 01:15, 20 January 2006 (UTC)
Well, mostly everybody. It's the most common name, though.--Sean|Black 01:32, 20 January 2006 (UTC)

I added "or Locust" to the motif for Skyrider. Different sources claim different motifs, but personally I feel Locust seems more likely since it's close to the Grasshopper and flies. DJ Kidna 03:19, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

Rider 2008 Confirmed

Dukemon22 covered some promo pix of the show being called "Kamen Rider Blood"(or "Vlad"). Following the theme Den-O started, the hero gets his powers from monsters. The first form, a vampire-themed form revolved on a little bat-creature named "Koumorin". There are other forms with a creature: Werewolf (Ookamin), Gillman (Hangyodon), & Frankenstein (Frankel). Dating

Given that this is the English wikipedia written for a (largely) non-Japanese audience, this article would be easier to read if events were grouped by a western dating system -- such as Gregorian decades -- instead of by imperial era. Just a thought. —Quasirandom (talk) 22:25, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

Because the subject itself is Japanese, it is often easier to date them as being part of the various different Japanese imperial eras. This also is helpful as the earlier series produced during Ishinomori's life which had a continuity amongst themselves were all produced (or started in the case with Black RX) during the Heisei era. This is also utilizing the divisions put in place by the Japanese Wikipedia articles and cultural complex (Kuuga and on due to stylistic differences are often referred to in the press as "Heisei Riders" and I believe that THE FIRST and THE NEXT are called the "Heisei Rider Series").—Ryūlóng (竜龍) 22:42, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

Motifs 2

Because of the individual on the dynamic IP, this discussion is for him to come here instead of continually curse at me in the edit summaries.

The Riders in Kamen Rider 555 do not have animal motifs. The animals used for the Kamen Riders card toys for Faiz and Kaixa do not reflect the actual motifs of the characters. There is no where online in Japanese sources that mention that Faiz has a wolf motif. I found two separate Japanese sources that say that it is the greek letter Phi (Φ) and it is also a firefly (hotaru). There is no where online in Japanese sources that mention that Kaixa has a dragon motif. That isn't even a dragon on the cards, it's a crocodile, which Kaixa was most certainly not. And Orga is most certainly not based off of a horse. The only thing that was a horse was Kiba's Orphenoch form, which did not reflect in any way the motif of the riders (so many people used those belts, that there was no way that the Orphenoch reflected on the suit's motif). It is only said to have the motif of the Greek letter Chi (Χ). Agito is not based off of a stag beetle. The creators even mention that it is a golden dragon, which is what the Machine Tornader is supposed to look like. If you can show a source other than the toys' "font" in Japanese that says that I am wrong, then we'll include it.—Ryūlóng (竜龍) 22:37, 29 December 2007 (UTC)

you are wrong

1 i haven't see nothing of dragon on agito, chinese dragons don't have horns. 2 faiz is a wolf: look this thing over the faiz helmet

3kaixa is a dragon, not the chinese, but the dragon with the wings

4orga is a horse, it's look like a war horse of the middle age

There is nothing that supports what you say in Japanese sources. And if you come back, talk normally.—Ryūlóng (竜龍) 21:07, 30 December 2007 (UTC)

Look here, this is the probe, go here :http://herotoy.web.fc2.com/syokugan/maskedrider/cardriders.html (agito and faiz)

http://www.bandai-asia.com/candy/45581-9.html

(kaixa, click on the image, it's a crocodile, and this is true)

there's no source which 000 is look like a horse, but looks like a knight

i have translated the writing on faiz card, this is writed:Gureī Ūrufu(gray wolf), is true which faiz is a wolf

User:Ryurenjaa

I understand those toys exist, but the animals that are on the cards for the riders in 555 were chosen for no known reason. Kaixa's user was never the Crocodile Orphenoch, so it's a random choice. Faiz's user was the Wolf Orphenoch, but those toys are the only place that Faiz is given anything that resembles a wolf. The only thing that is definite for the riders in 555 are the Greek letters, as I have found nothing outside of those toys that show that Faiz is a wolf and Kaixa is a crocodile, as everything else says the Greek letter phi or a firefly and the Greek letter chi. And with Agito, it was thought that he was a stag beetle, but official sources state that he is a dragon, which is also reflected in his motorcycle, as is much of the other riders. The Autovajin, Sidebasher, etc. are not based off of animals, and they would more than likely be if the Riders were given animal motifs.—Ryūlóng (竜龍) 22:50, 31 December 2007 (UTC)

Agito is not and has never been based off of a stag beetle. Official sources state that Agito's motif is that of a dragon, and not a stag beetle. There is no where other than in the Card Warriors toys that Agito is hinted to be a stag beetle. There is no where in those toys where Faiz is a Wolf and Kaixa is a crocodile. There is no source that states Orga is a horse. The Faiz Riders are only Greek letters. Agito is only a dragon. I even found something that explicitly stated "Kamen Rider Agito wa Ryuu Motif" in Japanese. Unless someone brings up another Japanese source that says "Kamen Rider Agito wa Kuwagatamushi" then it remains as dragon.—Ryūlóng (竜龍) 00:01, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

The Japanese Wikipedia even makes note of this motif, where it is said that someone mistakenly stated "Agito's motif is a kuwagata" on a variety show, but it is actually a dragon (なお翔一を演じた賀集は、バラエティ番組に出演した際「アギトのモチーフはクワガタ」と発言したが、上記の通りアギトのモチーフは龍であり、クワガタというのは彼の勘違いとされている。)—Ryūlóng (竜龍) 00:11, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

is not a dragon because nchinese dragons DON'T have horns machine tornado tornader don't reflect this. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.21.76.73 (talk) 12:11, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

Motifs

On this page under "Motifs" it lists the 555 Riders (Faiz, Kaixa, et al) having animal motifs. Faiz being a firefly for example. I've never heard of this ever, no mention of this on the related character pages [1][2][3][4][5], no mention on the series page [1], and there is no supporting references. Is this just my lack of Rider trivia knowledge or is having those animals listed original research? Theredcomet2000 04:08, 19 November 2006 (UTC)

For some reason someone deleted the Insect Motifs of 555. I only remember a couple of them, so if someone could insert the rest again that'd be great. DJ Kidna 18:36, 24 February 2007 (UTC)

  • I've readded the insect motifs. Archon Divinus 02:38, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

I've added the tarot card suits with the motifs from Kamen Rider Blade. DJ Kidna 22:07, 28 April 2007 (UTC)

Could someone put a citation link on the Motifs section? It does seem somewhat random and it'd be nice if people had verification on the claims, especially on the earlier Showa Kamen Riders.--76.87.229.104 23:00, 7 October 2007 (UTC)

I don't know why but someone continues to keep deleting the insect motifs for the Riders in 555. Citation isn't necessary with some of them as it's pretty obvious that Faiz and Psyga are fireflies and the Riot Troopers are ants, and Kiaxa is a hornet. The only ones that are uncertainties are Delta and Orga. DJ Kidna 1:11, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

There have been no insects listed for them. We don't have any source as to their insect bases.—Ryūlóng (竜龙) 02:52, 14 February 2008 (UTC)

What happened to the Hibiki motifs? It used to list all the instruments. And a lot of the other motifs were for some reason replaced by other characters or the show titles. DJ Kidna 4:55, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

They're just Oni, nothing else. The use of drums, trumpets, or guitars as weapons did not influence their motifs.—Ryūlóng (竜龙) 05:12, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

Motifs 4 (on Kuuga's other forms & AgitΩ's)

something's missing about Kuuga & AgitΩ's other motifs unlike Den-O, Zeronos, & Kiva, please add the name motifs of Kuuga's Growing, Mighty, Dragon, Pegasus, Titan, and Ultimate Form base on their names & appearance. As well as AgitΩ's Ground, Storm, Flame, Trinity, Burning, and Shining Form, thank you.--Punk 911 (talk) 05:17, 3 August 2008 (UTC)

The other forms are not as physically different and unique as Den-O and Kiva's forms are. The only difference that Kuuga's forms and Agito's forms have from each other are that they have different colors. Den-O, Zeronos, and Kiva's forms are all (for the most part) radically different from each other in design (Kiva's forms are less so).—Ryūlóng (竜龙) 05:40, 3 August 2008 (UTC)

"First use of mecha in a Kamen Rider series"

I have to contest this part of the description of Den-O. Are Faiz and Kaixa's respective motorcycles (Autovajin and Side Basher) not considered mecha? Kaixa's at the very least transforms into a walking battletank. 96.247.16.64 (talk) 08:19, 23 November 2008 (UTC)

Decade's and Diend's motifs

I don't think that Decade's and Diend's motifs are based on barcode. I think the lines at their appearances represent multiple dimensions as they travel through other dimensions in the course of the series. --Rimara (talk) 16:11, 3 June 2009 (UTC)

Masked Rider

I've got to wonder, with wikipedia all about being truthful, correct, and accurate, why aren't all riders up to Double and Dragon Knight listed as Masked Riders mainly, since that is the official romanization for them as seen in various logos and on various merchandise packaging? the fan backlash from Saban's Masked Rider should be overruled as far as this site is concerned. to be honest, when it wasn't official, "Kamen Rider" was a half-translation, that really isn't respectful of the original japanese creators. I say we should go for officiality over opinionated consensus —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.22.36.95 (talk) 05:52, 27 May 2010 (UTC)

The name rendered in English characters has not been all that consistent through the near 40 year history of the franchise. Super-1's bike says "KAMEN RIDER" on it and the name "MASKED RIDER" has only been on toy packaging and the title logos for Agito through Decade (minus Hibiki & Kabuto). It was more or less decided a while ago on Wikipedia that "Kamen Rider" is the most common name used due to this lack of consistency, that and Japan uses "Kamen Rider" rather than "Masked Rider" as the "original title" rather than the "English title" used for international distribution as seen here. In addition to disambiguate it from the mascot The Masked Rider as well as to avoid having some pages titled "Kamen Rider" and others "Masked Rider" while all being the same thing, all of these pages use "Kamen Rider", even if the "official English titles" used in the Japanese logos for the Heisei series use "Masked Rider" up until Double (using that title would also require "ΑGITΩ", "Φ's", "♠", and "DCD" rather than "Agito", "555", "Blade", and "Decade", too).—Ryūlóng (竜龙) 06:23, 27 May 2010 (UTC)

Requested move 15 December 2018

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: consensus to move this article to Kamen Rider and the first series to Kamen Rider (1971 TV series) at this time, per the discussion below. Dekimasuよ! 19:43, 29 December 2018 (UTC)

Kamen Rider SeriesKamen Rider (franchise) – I am having some trouble parsing all of the details of the move history surrounding this article, but I can verify that the article was at this title at least in 2006–2007, and again (shortly) in 2016. Regardless of previous claims to the contrary the word "Series" here should not be capitalized, as per WP:TITLEFORMAT, regardless of what the Japanese title of this article supposedly is (and it was moved on that basis by an editor who is now indef'ed by an WP:ARBCOM decision, for what it's worth). WP:ENGLISH is the rule here, so we should go what the English-language capitalization should be. So, at a minimum, the article should be moved to Kamen Rider series, but permanently moving it to the proposed title of Kamen Rider (franchise) is actually the most sensible solution as per WP:NCTV. --IJBall (contribstalk) 15:19, 15 December 2018 (UTC)--Relisting. © Tbhotch (en-2.5). 23:20, 25 December 2018 (UTC)
